Hey Folks,

I've just developed some software that allows Web Developers/Designers to embed 3D images in their web pages and interact with the images. By interact, I mean be able to grab the image with your mouse and move it around on all 3 axis as well as zoom with the mouse wheel (except with Safari which you can't zoom in on). The images that you put in your web page would be true 3D images that you would create in Maya or Blender and are exported in the X3D format.

I'd like to get some feedback on the software to see if it would be of interest to Web Designers/Developers. The URL is http://www.igwaii.com/Explorer/Explorer.html . I'm not selling it (yet but I was thinking of selling it for something like $700 per copy), just gathering feedback to see if there is interest in it. This is NOT about the web page design - the web page you get to is just for showing the sample images. Hell, I'm just finishing up the Web site.

If you could let me know what you think, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance ...

Neil

Not true. If you take a look at the page, I go to great length to make it look unprofessional. I haven't even put up a website for it yet. All I'm looking for is a review of the software and whether it's something that would be of interest. Not selling anything at all (which I specifically said in the original post).

"I go to great length to make it look unprofessional" are you sure this is what you mean?

Tosh, piffle.

I think that posting java applets in the same category as webdesign is fairly reasonable, seeing as how java is a very good thing to use for webdesign and webdevelopment actually, and the only thing that bothers me is that my computer is too rubbish to run that java, sorry. I wish you could make it more cross-platform.

Java is the way forwards, and right now it is the most sound language to pursue in the name of development and profit online.

There is no reason, as far as I can see, that it doesn't fit in the category of web pages for review - it's a web page with java on it. It's not some downloadable .exe or anything.

Brian07002, you're just being difficult and unpleasant for no good reason.

Did anyone else manage to look at that java applet? I'd love to know what it actually does. Maybe when I'm on a better machine later today I'll have a go on it.

Hey Witnesstheday,

I've been working on a YouTube video for the website but I'm not happy with the quality (common issue with YouTube). If you want to see it, it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8SxEfF-UME .

If you do end up selling it, I'm guessing you'll make more money and have more buyers if you drop the price. $700 is pretty steep.

Big companies with large marketing departments and very polished software might sometimes be able to charge this much. However, initially you'll probably need to rely more on word of mouth marketing and getting feedback from your customers in order to broaden the market appeal of the package.

Your best bet for both of these is to maybe have a free version that people can experiment with and (hopefully) tell their friends about, and also have a premium version with some relatively affordable price, like say < $100.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dan. I'll keep that in mind.

Anyone else have comments about the pricing?

At this time, I see 339 views so far. How many of you have suggestions? I've had the suggestion of a lower price. I've had suggestions about demos/free entry level solutions. Any other comments about the presentation of the images? Also, is this something that you would be interested in or would I just be spinning my wheels?

All comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance ...

would saythe price is too big, and you should do something with the load time is heavy to load so much when it only one thing, games like runescape runs it much quicker

Edit: sorry it is only slow when it ask me to turn of something

I've started teaching myself java development from scratch. It's definitely the most intelligent zone to learn to develop in, but of course if you're after making money I suspect that you're way off... right now there's probably not much demand for intelligent extras in the field of web development or browsing.

Personally any java apps I make in coming months are for my own self-development and enjoyment and fulfilment. I spend most of my time doing really braindead advertising work - face it, we live in babylon. Most people in our society are TOTALLY STUPID, most of the things that are bought are COMPLETELY POINTLESS, most of the jobs people have are ENTIRELY FLATULENT, and there is no ending it. Even after the western crash is complete and the world is chinese-dominated - it's just going to be the same old bullcrap but in another language.

People like us (intelligent ones) don't really belong within the normal framework of existence. Some of us, from time to time, devastate the world by altering the way something is perceived - it could be the discovery that the world is not flat (galileo was called a freak and a geek and all that jazz, and I imagine they killed him too - I never remember, but they DO tend to kill anyone with good ideas, at least up to about 200 years after Henry the Eighth, going back to pre-moses times), or the invention of the television, or relativity or the atom bomb... all manner of things. From time to time people like us change the world, but most of the time we just suffer it. And it is a rubbish world full of pointless morons who spend most of their time proudly brandishing their stupidity as though it's something others ought to be impressed by, and as if to add existential angst to sheer unfairness, we, the clever bastards, discover that the morons ARE in fact impressed by each others' total idiocy, incompetence, brainlessness and other things that to us are serious flaws.

With a creative mind like yours, I suggest you go into my business and compete with me. Sell products and services for domestic mainstream brands run and sold by global blue-chip corporations.

He wants a website review, not a software review, yes? I can add that making it Safari resistant is practically a selling point for this we user!
