It was smart of you to come here to get some feedback on your website. I personally do not think many people go out of their way to seek out advice on how to market their site better. Cheers! You should always strive to make your website the best that it can be. I belong to other forums and they have helped me make some really great websites. On e of my proudest achievement is Resorts Web Design. I love helping people and giving out tips on how to make their site better.
Now, with that out of the way, here is my honest critique of your site. Number one, the gold is a bit too much for me. You might want to tone down that a bit.
For instance do not make the following gold: Search button, Special Offers button row, Top (Home) button row. The sub-section would be okay gold. Blue is nice. Use the blue you have in the Quick Search for the items I just mentioned.
The photos on Top destinations are too small. Make them twice as big.
I agree about the photo on top. Make it brighter. Here is a great trick to make that photos pop: In Photoshop import the photo and duplicate it, so you have two layers. On the top layer, use the Screen attribute in the layer panel and then adjust accordingly. I just did on my computer and it really pops.
