The site has a lot of nice features but I'm not sure about the direction. What is the site for? Why should I join?

An intro on what the site is about would be nice. Also, the ads are very intrusive. Perhaps fewer ads would be nice. The theme is OK, but for a flashy news type site you might want to do more to make it stand out.

All in all, I give it a 6.5
