Website Review and Suggestions

I manage a website for a ceramic tile remodeling company called Cupan Custom Tile and Paint in Charlotte, NC.

I understand that visiting a company's website is more of an experience rather than merely viewing a brochure.

I'm looking for creative suggestions on how to add interaction and intrigue to the content without using Flash.

1. you don't need Flash for interaction. You can probably do the exact same things using Ajax.

2. I'm looking at the box in the upper right

Why not build something to let people choose for themselves using samples on the site. At the end of the application you could ask them to contact for a price or for a consultation if they didn't come up with one on their own.

I want to have a tool that allows user to pick a tile and see how it looks in a room model. Also, within that model, be able to pick from Benjamin Moore paint colors as well.

Someone said I should use java. But I don't know where to start learning how to build an application like that.

You can probably do everything in JavaScript. Where to start depends on how much you know. This will probably end up being an Ajax application, though if you need to build it right away you may want to hire someone to develop the app.

It doesn't need to be right away.
I've been wanting to learn how to do an application like this but didn't know how to search for the information I need to sculpt the project I want to build.

I have an image of a blank bathroom. White background with black line showing the shower stall, tub surround, vanity with countertop, wall, and floor areas. I modeled it in Sketchup and have several screenshots to use.

Then I want to be able to click on an area to highlight it (i.e. a floor, a shower wall, or wainscotting of wall).
Then the user is able to choose a tile selection to the left of the screen. This will be a list of tiles in different categories (i.e. you click on ceramic, and all the ceramic tile from our tile catalog is displayed).
Kind of like a click and drop for different defined areas of an image.

For a quick fix I'd add a slideshow of nice pics of tile, forget flash.
Also i'm viewing it in opera and the pictures in the posts don't fit. Add <br/> in add more space in the posts.
need a banner, maybe avoid a fluid theme as there can't be that much info

Well, IMO, you should first get a fresh redesign going. In Firefox, the layout is all wacky!

Now for interaction, the easy way is to implement a javascript library like jquery (www.jquery.com). With jquery, you can do much of the slick flash eye candy without Flash.

But to get to what you want in the screenshot, it's going to be real difficult. You'll probably have to hire a pro javascript developer.
