I am currently in the middle of developing this site and it's not up so don't bother going to the link. But I would like to know what you think of the domain name itself.

The site will be (yet another) developer tutorial site for CSS, HTML 5, javascript, regular expressions, C# and Silverlight (maybe some more down the road). I will also be supplying some free controls that I build from scratch like a file upload control written in Silverlight.

I want to make sure I have the right domain name before I put it up. I also plan on paying to get a logo made. Maybe have a contest on this forum. But before I do that I need a yeah or nay on the name.

I'm asking about the name not the site. The site is still being created but I want to make sure that the domain name can reflect the purpose of the site. If people think the name sucks I need to find another one.

I don't think people are reading the original post very well.

I think the domain name is a little long, but it's catchy enough for people to remember, so it should be just fine.

If I were to say anything on the negative side it would be that it sounds a little on the "computer tech" side. The domain name should reflect the content. Look at the name of this forum. Simple and to the point.
When I think "Geek", I think about virus removal, adding more RAM and "What's Hot in Flat Panel Display".

In the end, though, the name will be as good as the content you create. If the site is good, then you just need the name to be memorable, and this one is. After all... what the hell is a "Google"?

Roy Dixon, Thank you. I was getting frustrated by the previous replies as they did seem to read the original post. Thank you for your input. One other name I had thought of was ObjectIsNull.com which I also own. I think I will use this one as it more closely relates to programming and is surprisingly googled as an error (well, normally with spaces).

The name "Google" originated from a common misspelling of the word "googol".

I thought you helped me so I'd help you

I think the name is pretty good too.

I don't think site names really HAVE to do anything with content, as long as the site has good content. Flickr, Amazon, etc.

My only complaint is that it's a little long.

I've always believed that a domain name should be one of two things:

1. A catchy word or phrase that doesn't refer to anything in particular (yahoo.com, google.com, bing.com, 4guysfromrolla.com)

2. The name should be in reference to what the site is about (but still catchy) (w3schools.com, moillussion.com, addictivegames.com, hotforwords.com)

If you have a very catchy domain name that doesn't really mean anything or isn't in reference to anything then you need to work even harder on the content to make sure that people can match the name with the content later on.

If you have a catchy name that also describes the content of the site it is easier for people to remember that site and relate it to that type of content.

So, basically I've decided to go with ObjectIsNull.com for the programming tutorial site. It should (hopefully) be up and running July 31, 2009 (my birthday if anyone cares)

The GeeksWorkSmarter sitename didn't immediately make me think about coding, development or programming, but maybe it's just me - For me geek is something "more" than just that. Other than that, domain is kinda in between of catchy and referencing, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

As a sidenote, ObjectIsNull sounds great and you seem to taken your time to come up with that.

Hello? Did you not read the post- He's looking for suggestions on a name not a design. He could have the Mona Lisa of webdesign and could not careless of anyone's opinion on it. I'm sure if or when he does, it would go up.

On the flipside, I guess ya figured the name thing out-
I was gonna suggest something like webjunk101 or something.

Good luck with the site, Id love to see it when youre done
