Hi everyone. Are PSD mockups allowed here for review? I couldn't find info to say otherwise, so here we go...

Here's my proposed design for a personal portfolio site (to be coded into wordpress eventually)

http://www.informatik.com/themeforest/mockup03.png

Under the main menu is the portfolio section that will contain a javascript "slider" for viewing all the images in a selected category.

The site is soley to showcase a portfolio... this will not contain blogging features.

Thanks for your critiques!

There are navigation menus in the mockup.

Are you referring to the fact that this is an image rather than a fully functional site?

I thought it would be helpful to get an initial feedback before days were spent creating a full site. Is what i'm doing wrong for this site?

I like the artsy look. It has kind of a Nouveau / Deco feel to it.
Colors are nice. It looks simple and easy to navigate. Is the cartoon character staying? (I hope not.. use a BW photo)

Looks great!

It looks really good, very creative and I am a personal fan of swirls. I can't wait to see the site once it is up.

Like RoyDixon said, don't use that cartoon character as your picture: use a real picture of yourself in color or black and white.

Thanks Destinyx3! I think i have enough positive reviews to go ahead and start coding. I'll definitely post again when the site's complete.

The cartoon head is just for the mockup only.

Looks great. I know one thing that happens to headers over time is the get smaller in height. Big headers push content down below the fold, and over time the site owner will find that every pixel helps. If it were me, I would start this right now, but moving the black bar/menu/swirly design up closer to the top, even if its just 20 pixels. Condense it a little. Just an idea.

I agree with what has been said here another i might do is move the swirls over to the left a tad to in the header cause to me it doesn't fell like it flows. If that makes sense to you

Looks good and I really like the color scheme. Your work samples should really pop off that black in the middle top. I also agree with moving the header up a little this way more of your bottom information will display on most monitors.

My only real constructive criticism is to change it so the header is not so large. Granted, I am on a netbook, but I prefer (and I think others do too) to see the main content when the page loads. Since more and more people will have netbooks, that's something to keep in mind.

Also, as much as I like the swirly design. Make sure they don't take away from your 3d graphics and other work you plan to show. You want the focus to be on your work and the website to look cool yet fall to the background. You have the looking cool part working quite well.

The page looks fine.
Nice color scheme and composition, and general impression from the page.

Several small remarks, however:
- Maybe it would be better to underline links
- Maybe teaser should show more than one work (not only photography, but also web design and fine art related ones)
- The 'Lorem ipsum' text looks very 'non-individual', maybe it would be better to write there something other.
