WeTheWeb.org is my personal web design site... I was wondering what people thought of the design!

Well, you could at least make it a proper link for a start :]

Design is quite good overall. Products pages could do with a bit of an explanation as to what you mean. How much of an update is 'minor'? What's SEO? The 'satisfaction gauranteed' thing is a little cheesy.

I would also suggest you don't put a portfolio page up if you can't fill it. It's a matter of opinion but I'd say you'd be better off not having any portfolio than one that says you haven't done enough work to make one.

Sales writing isn't great, needs quite a bit of tidying up in places, some wierd and politics italics?

why do you have random images of keyboards, mice, color pencils, and a bluish gradient? these images do nothing to convince the viewer how good a designer you are.

your overall design doesn't look professional, rather amateurish. fonts are too big, layout is generic, and your logo is plain and way too large. if you're going to market yourself as quality w/o the high price, make sure the quality is there. if i was a potential client, i wouldn't think so based on your own site. in fact, the phrase "you get what you pay for" rings in mind. the copy on your site also really needs a lot of work. your writing doesn't sound professional at all.

Looks pretty good so far, but one *Big* mistake is you didn't put up a portfolio before you decided to put the site live. That's not a good idea imo.

The design specifications are all detailed in the contract. I have the portfolio page there now because I do obviously intend on filling it. What do you suggest I put there while I don't have much professional design under my belt?
What is wrong with the text? The italics is to define the main points and keep the text less boring.

If you really think about it, the images are not random. They all deal with aspects of the internet, computers, and design. I don't see how font size would be seen as 'too large' unless you are running on a fairly low resolution... Even then I made sure it didn't appear disportionate. My logo is simplistic, that is how I wanted it; and I really don't think it is too large by any means. How does my writing not sound professional? I don't see what you are saying.

Yes, I didn't really feel great about putting up an empty portolio page, but I don't really see how I could make it a placeholder instead of how I have it right now. What did you have in mind?

What is wrong with the text? The italics is to define the main points and keep the text less boring.
Most people read silently in their head. Italics are used to give a special emphasis to the word which most people will also read in their head. They are not for making text less 'boring'. You don't have anywhere near enough text to worry about being boring.

I'm afraid it's difficult to explain bad writing without going through the entire text, but words like design-in-mind don't need hyphens and certainly don't need the 'in mind' to be in italics. You've misused a semicolon, you've referred to yourself as 'I' while reffering to your company as 'our' so I've got no idea if you're a team or an indvidual and you over qualify obvious statements.

To me as a potential client the whole point of a website is to explain to me what the design speficiations are, not wait for a contract. Terms like SEO can be confusing to clients. Where am I going to go? The site that explains it all to me so I can figure out if it's important to my company, or the site that needs me to recieve a contract, first?

As for your portfolio, it's up to you. Personally, I would have done free website design work either over the net or for a local company to show off my skills. That tends to be how things work in the writing world. If I contacted a client who was paying money for text and I had no text to show him, I wouldn't be suprised if I didn't get any work.

In the meantime, just don't have it there at all. What it says to any potential client right now is 'I have no experience, can I test my skills on you and make you pay full price for it?'
