There are things to like about your site, and some things you might want to address.
The background technique is nice. Have you thought about maybe breaking the home page into 2 horizontal sections divided by blank space? that would show a little more of the background image as you scroll. It might add to the "cool" factor. (Just an idea.. I could be an idiot or a chimp that can type.)
The domain isn't bad. I don't know what it means, but it's memorable and contains an important keyword.
You might want to re-think your ad placement a little. This type of site is pretty easy to monetize, but ad placement can be tricky. Placing a widget above the header is distracting to me, but I have seen it done quite a few times, so it must not be that big of a deal. If you are going to have a widget there, then it might be better to swap it with the one at the bottom of the page. This is a gaming site, so let the gaming ads contribute to the look and feel of the page. Move those local weather and business ads down to the bottom of the page.
Your primary navigation links above the header are inconsistent and confusing. "Home" is in an orange button, "Search" is in a gray button and the rest have a transparent background which makes them very difficult to read. It might be better to have a bar behind those links or have each one in a button. If you use buttons, then make them consistent. The search button could be a different color to separate it from the rest, but I would change the color of the search terms entry box to white so it's purpose is more obvious.
In the header there is some text that makes no sense. "Today in terms of PWNING" what does that mean.. Is it supposed to be a link? I don't get it. "Recent Photos" I don't see any photos... it looks like a link too, but it isn't. Are pictures supposed to be there?
Is the little bluebird part of the logo? If it is, then maybe you could move it up a bit. It looks lonely there all by itself. Have it's head kind of overlap the "G" a little.
Right now, your page is set up like a newspaper. Four long columns with a feature "Photo" (video) centered above the middle 2 columns. Turn those 2 middle columns into one easy to read section.
You have a category called "Asides" that seems not only unnecessary, but it causes problems as well. Move those entries into the news category and use that space to run your blog posts across the whole width of the available space. It will make the page much cleaner and less confusing.
The page needs COLOR! Today's games are stunningly visual, but there are no graphics on your page. Give it some punch, make it feel more like a gamers' page. People that play need constant input of some type or they get bored. They aren't going to sit there reading a bunch of text unless it tells them what they want to know about the games they are interested in or the dream system they want for Christmas.
I think you have a nice start, but I would keep going on it.
