Hi,

Could you review my portfolio. http://konetchreport.com/portfolio/index.php

Here's some things I know don't work.
  • The donate link is broken
  • I'm going to get a relevant domain name. This is just a temporary resting place
Other than that what do you think. I think I need to add more images, but I'm not sure what they should be of. I was thinking of a photo of a laptop under the navigation, or I could create am image with different PHP, HTML, and CSS codes. Any suggestions would be nice.

Thanks

why the loose doctype? you're web designers so use strict!

typo in the first sentence "desing "

the only thing you have for a heading and to tell us what the site is about is a heading graphic that says 'My portfolio' that doesn't tell us anything. we need a company/personal name, location, contact details, what the web site *is* (i.e. web design)
my portfolio should be save for the portfolio page

"All of our sites are written with valid HTML and CSS" nope. 5 errors there on your homepage

no real headings (h1,h2 ... )

line height is too small - need more space between the lines!

you've used brs to make more space between paragraphs - that's what css if for.

yes it does desperately need some graphics and a logo.
2 of the sites in your portfolio have their accounts suspended.

no alt text for your 'my portfolio' image

"We use the latest styles of Web 2.0 to help make your site significantly stand out from the rest." this is funny - you don't display any aptitude for using web 2.0 styles and using web 2.0 styles isn't enough to make sites stand out from all the other sites using - guess what - web 2.0 styles

looks like some non-web designers 'designed' the site and it's not one that i would feel any confidence in entrusting my business with
if it was a first attempt by someone wanting to make a personal page then fair enough but this is simply not good enough.

Thanks fro your good review.

I'll definitely re-do the logo, and about the errors I forgot to ask about those also. The code

HTML Code:
<a href="index.html"><div class="nav">Go Home</div></a>
<a href="contact.php"><div class="nav">Contact Us</div></a>
<a href="../portfolio/sites/index.html"><div class="nav">Our Sites</div></a>
<a href="order.html"><div class="nav">Order a Site</div></a>
seems to be the only way to make a whole div container a link. Is there any other way?

And about the web 2.0, I admit this isn't exactly accurate. I'm hoping to develop the site a little more. It's still not finished just wanted to see how well it looks so far.

Again thanks for the review. I'll be sure to change everything you suggested, and I have one more question. Is there any real benefit to using headings rather than just css. Just wondering.

<a href="donate.html"><div class="nav">Donate</div></a><br>

Please don't this offensively, but if you are going to be charging people for websites then your portfolio site has to be much better for that.

You need to entice the potential buyer straight away so they don't go looking else where. This looks like a template with a bad logo I'm afraid and the coding of the site it's self is not perfect.

My advice would be going back to the drawing board and designing an attractive, standard compliant website that shows off your work.

@dt17

No offense taken. I just made a new logo. It's still not the best, I admit, but I think it is better. Do you have an answer for my post in the previous thread because I would really like to fix that.

Thanks for the review

Alex

Is this for the right navigation or the bottom navigation?

For the right navigation, you should be using an unordered list instead of wrapping hyper link text within div's.

Since you have a div within your <a> </a> tags, this is violation XHTML Strict straight away.

You should Google horizontal CSS menu's to learn more. There are even some generators out there!

your grammar really needs work. based on your website, it's clear that you are new at this, so i would brush up the skill set before charging people.

Thanks hartofalyon. Actually I've been doing this for over 3 years, but I only started taking it really seriously about a year ago, and I'm probably going to pay someone to write the content.

Anyway, I re-did some of the site, and added an image under the navigation. Does it look a little better now, and what else could I do to make it more attractive? I'm not sure what to do with all the white space so if you could help me with that to it would be great.

Note: I still have to do the donate page so don't worry about that.
