Website Review and Suggestions

OK I am redesigning our page for our diabetes walk and I need some feedback and advice.

Keep in mind-its just a start. No links work yet. I know I'm not supposed to be using Dreamweaver but I did anyway(shhhhhh). There's really not much to add so I think I can get away with using the large images (and Im pretty proud of the poster)

So-
Does the page take long to load?
Is there a trick I can use (or a div tag) to move the nav sidebar and the poster up closer to the 2 donation banners?
Does the side navbar look too bland?
Could it use a smaller black background behind the images?

Also- the other pages I hope to replace the poster with text I need for each page. Can I use that for the background (its just the paper- no pics, no wanted text, etc) and put my text on top op that or would it be better to add a table (cough cough) background with a similar color and just add the text over top? Im just not sure how much space I will need and I dont want it to overlap the image- BUT I like the job I did on the old paper and would like to keep it.

To answer your questions
It actually loads almost instantly for me.
You should make the nav bar transparent background.
To make the nav bar and the poster closer to the donate buttons get rid of the <p tag and instead use align="center" within the img tag.

Well thats good to hear- I have to add the tag after the entire src url right?
I tried adding in in between img and src and it didnt work.

Align isn't a tag itself, you have to put it in the img tag so your picture would be like <img src="myimg.jpg" align="center" width="32" height="10"></img>
You can change the values but i just put that to show you how you could use it. You would use it in all the images that you wanted to be centered.

my suggestions:
change the font , its not clear enough
ad a page title on your home page , and I didnt get any other page to load than the home page. + google top 10 seo tips or something similar, get those right and get visitors and hopefully donations going.
maybe a new page that gives tips on how to spot symptomps of diabetes if it hasnt been diagnosed, you know interesting useful content.

You wouldnt get any other pages to load- In my OP it does say-

There is an About Diabetes page up there which will educate on the disease. I already run a site focused on symptoms. This site here is specifically about my children and their diabetes.

Which font is hard to read? I need to stick with something western because thats the whole theme of the page.

I really just needed my specific questions answered-

the load time
eliminating the space between the main banner and the donation banners
side bar looking bland
another smaller black background
whether I could use the wanted poster as a background for text I need for other pages.

That basically is- everything is will be added before I complete the actual page but Im not waste my time adding everything if I have to make drastic changes with the things above I need help with.

Gotcha- I think I put <img align="center" sr="blahblah Ill try dropping it in after the entire url. Thats just a pet peeve I wanna fix so while I can certainly go live w/out fixing it- it would make me happy!

What did ya mean by the transparent bg? Ya mean have the wood show through?
