I've asked for review of a website at this URL in the past. Most recently, about a month ago. And feedback hasn't exactly been positive. So since that last time, I've taken into account peoples comments and rewritten this website from scratch. It is completely unrecognisable from the original.

Any comments or feedback, positive or negative, of this new website would be greatly appreciated.

The URLs: http://www.jrosworld.com/

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Here goes:

It's verry blueish. Not that blue isn't a good color but **** is that site BLUE!
It also make the link at the bottom hard to read. Try some other color's for the links.

The tabs at the top are huge! Try a smaller size.

Ah Beautiful canada on the photo page. Maybe you can give every row of foto's an alternative color. That way it's easier to see that the groups of photo's are seperated from eachother.

On the hostel review pages there's nothing much to add. But maybe you can try a smaller font size. Make the heading stand out from the rest.

http://www.jrosworld.com/the_rest/ doesn't work. Work in progress??

Thanks for that. I've kept it simple because one criticism of my last attempt at this website, was that it was too cluttered. And I added features such as a webcam and forum to that site, but these just became obsolete, because the only 2 functions I really use this site for, is to keep a blog and to host photos. So it's deliberate that it is as simple as it is.

Another criticism of the last site, was there were too many colours. That's the reason for all the blue. I won't deny I might've overdone it a little with the blue, so that's something I'll look at. But the key for me when rewriting this site, was keep it simple. No unnecessary features. No outstanding colours. Just keep it simple...

Yes that page is a work in progress. In fact I only took away the "Page under construction" page yesterday. Where did you find that link though?
There should be no links to the folder "the_rest", only to "the_rest.html". So was that link on the site somewhere? Because if it is, it's something I'll need to rectify, because like you say, it won't take you anywhere.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. Any further criticism would be great.

Oh man.

First off, lose that font ASAP. If you're using "Magneto" (the worst commercial font ever) you should know that it is altering your letters to read like "Fro's World travel blog." Also, if you're going to capitalize Jro and World you also need to do the same for "travel" and "blog." Let's just start there..

I have to disagree with you about the header font. It's Vivaldi btw, I've never heard of Magneto. But apart from your comment, feedback regarding the header font has been fairly positive. No one else has struggles to read it.

And the capitalisation of those words is deliberate. It places emphasis on the name of the website.

I'm looking for feedback on more than just a heading if you have anything else.

Hi

The colours are fine however the dosage of these colours I would say are a bit too strong.

1. Work on the width. I have a 1280x1024 yet I'm see a horizontal scroll bar appear.
2. Considered making the body background white and then have the page background in those 3 shades of blue? This will soften the strong presence of blue..
3. For uniform, have landscape pictures together and portrait together so it looks neat.

Nice pics of the lake. One of those pictures on Can Galiano looked like something else at first glance... heh..

Haha, yeah that's what I thought when I took it.

I'm not too sure why the horizontal scroll bar appears there. All of the horizontal widths for the site I have defined using percentages, so nothing should be wider than the width of your monitor. Yet still a scrollbar is always there. I'm sure that with {overflow-x:hidden}, that I could get rid of that bar, but I'd just rather keep it there because I have at least 1 page, 'The Map' page, in which the width is determined in pixels rather than %. So if I take away the scroll bar, then that would be annoying for people with small monitors.

I see what you're saying about the picture order. But the reason that I have them in that order is that it's the chronological order in which I took them. I might change that to how you say though, because it would look much neater.

I like it, but I think the blue background should be softer.

Well, in cases like this, I would frame the thumbnail so it is in the size of a landscape (by clipping it in photoshop) but when you click on it, it is portrait size.

Of course it takes longer but effort is everything.

I agree with what you're saying. But with over 3,000 photos in my gallery, to clip each one would take me weeks. Surely a simpler way would be to just change the image dimensions in my stylesheet? Or would that lead to some other problem?

I suppose you're right.

CSS Styling will only distort it..

I usually batch process an action in photoshop so it takes only minutes but because you have already developed pages and such then maybe this is something you should consider for upcoming pictures?
