Hello,
I'm a web designer for local small businesses who are looking to get online. I recently updated my website to reflect what I can do for my clients...as previously it was looking pretty terrible. I guess just like how mechanics keep driving a piece of crap as long as it gets the places.

Anyways, I was hoping that I could get some advice. I am using Wordpress, but am fully comfortable making any changes either to theme or coding.

Thanks for your time!

I think the color scheme is really nice - there's something about that dark-bluish green that I really like.

But I would nix the diagonal stripes idea, and if anything, I would go with really fine 1px wide stripes. The word "construction" keeps popping up in my head when I look at those stripes

I'd also make it so that the main content box doesn't overlap with the header. It looks more professional when they're distinct, or just touching.

I would also make the links on the main nav-bar evenly spaced horizontally.

Design-wise, there is so much room for improvement.

You also need more content on the homepage. It's not enough that you have a list of your services

Hi

  • You need to change "Home IT Solutions" to a graphic. As a web designer, I think you should display your ability to deliver graphics, identity and branding with your own personal branding.
  • Your website overall seems to me more like a blog with content offering a web design service. I think you need to consider better placement of your portfolio and services. More emphasis on this so people immediately capture the essence of a designer and see your work but you've gone and written a lot about designing with minimalistic evidence to back it up. You've put a portfolio jpg THUMBNAIL at the bottom left as if it was a secondary topic to express. If you don't have a big portfolio then what you should do is make more noise about each project - distinguish areas such as logo design, colour choices/coding/SEO and web design per project. Don't just dump it all on one page and then put a form at the bottom. You're suppose to sell the idea that you're in demand and that you have a proven portfolio.
  • I like the background stripes. The header is okay but would look much better with a logo design instead of a plain h1 tag.
