Hi,

Ok so I've just found this forum and it's great

http://www.gallery-space.net

I've recently built an online art gallery, it doesn't have much content yet as it's only been online since yesterday (Just a couple of test submissions from me). If you could find five minutes to give it a review it would be great.

I'm looking for general feedback concerning all elements of design, code SEO whatever you think really.

Feel free to sign up if you want I can always delete accounts later it's no big deal.

So thanks in advance and I look forward to all your feedback.

PS: Be as critical as you like I have pretty thick skin and want this to be the best it can be.

http://www.gallery-space.net

Thanks

Design looks very nice.
But it needs a catchy logo.
You know there are hundreds of these online galleries so you
need to
1) Create at least a memorable logo for branding
2) Focus on some particular niche.
Use the Google Keywords search tool to figure out what kinds
of art people are searching for AND where the competition is not too
fierce and target that. If not you probably wont get very far without a
big marketing budget.

In your code you've got.
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
Duplication.

Speaking of duplication there is no need to
have TWO call to action buttons and TWO contact links on the home page.

Thanks TWD, the logo is in development as we speak :-)

The duplicate is a result of a replace all and will be removed now.

Not sure I agree with the two call to actions on the front page, especially while it is in its fledging stages as I want to encourage as many people to sign up as possible. The contact links though I do agree with and one will be removed.

Your right it is a fierce market and it might have to become more of a niche site, we'll see how it develops.

Thanks again

Agree with TWD a neat looking logo would be a good addition - I have a great guy who does mine for $100 per piece, always money well spent. I run an adsense forum and he did my logo for said price (see my signature). Talking of adsense it would work well on your site and is worth considering. To get you site really rocking and rolling I would consider contacting your local art groups and let people know they can upload their work for free. I live on a tiny island and yet in my village alone 26 local artists have just held an open weekend - some have websites some don't but I bet if offered the chance to upload artwork for free they'd jump at the chance.
Hope this helps,
Dickie Boy

Looks clean and fresh and the navigation is easy. Needs a logo like everyone said but it seems to be a pretty good site.

Thats the way website owners think.
Its not the way website users think.

Imagine you get into a car that has two ignition switches.
Its just possible that your mind says:

Quote:
"oh wow how convenient and considerate of the
designers to give me one extra mechanism to
achieve the identical result"
or its more likely the mind says

Quote:
"Hmmm. Two switches? They can't both do
the same thing surely? Whats different about them?
Maybe I should read a manual? Maybe I should ask
somebody first? Maybe I don't really want to drive
this car after all"
In design theory its called the
Occam's razor principle

If I go to this page: http://www.gallery-space.net/
And click on a link so I go to this one:
http://www.gallery-space.net/artist.asp?uid=40

I see the pictures moving up between the two pages. Try to keep that more steady? Maybe add a title to the second page as well?

You need to work on those URLs. I will prefer to see multiple sizes of images.

Thanks for the comments, just a couple of questions:

Can you please elaborate about what you mean regarding the URLs?

The images can be upload in whatever dimensions the user pleases as the enlarge will scale to the size of the picture. It's only in the thumbnails that I restrict the size.
