Trying to turn what was just a portfolio on a personal web page into something more professional, adding more color, going for something between a comic book feel and something more elegant. I'll be using Lightbox 2 on the portfolio pages, and a "What's new" section in the right sidebar where the portfolio links are now as a placeholder. The links are not yet active.

http://bellsouthpwp2.net/j/a/jam331/ (the concept page) as opposed to

http://www.e-gads.org (the original page)

(Note: Yes, I know that IE7 and below destroy the page, and Opera seems to choke on the scroll. This is just a concept test in the real browsers before I debug for the crap browsers).

to be brutally honest i can't find a single thing i like about it

as a personal site it would be your choice but as you saying your aiming for more professional and elegant then you're nowhere near.

i would start again.

mate, some of your work is brilliant. especially the drawings, they are fantastic.
(are they your work? i assume they are.)

but you're website does not reflect that at all. i see you're website and my first impression is 'this is going to be rubbish' and so i wouldn't continue looking.

you should start again.
or pay for someone else to do it.

the only thing i would say is that, the layout you've you used in your concept is a good idea and could have some potential.

I see you like cartoons.

I would even go farther.

I envy you that you already know javascript. Maybe you can add a comment on how to best learn it to my question in the javascript forum?

the concept page has a large block of text "presentation is everything.." and that is very wide, so i have to scroll to the right to view it. that seems to be a problem somewhere. i am using IE7. the links over the photo of the head look a little odd too.

Thanks to all. I decided to take a different direction with it. The new concept home page is still at http://bellsouthpwp2.net/j/a/jam331/. I still have to tweak it a little so IE7 and before will behave, so bear in mind I'm aware of the IE7 display quirks.

I get what you're going for but it's just not there.

The drawings in your portfolio are terrific though - and since you have that particular skill at your fingertips, I'd seriously consider using a large hand-drawn image as your background (ONE large image NOT tiled) and building the rest of your site on top of it.

....just my 2 cents.
