I am in charge of revamping my friends legal help site and want to upgrade it to a more current feel / a la web 2.0 feel, because thats what he keeps asking me for...

Review away and give input, because I am a little brainlocked at the moment

Here's some quick thoughts:

1. Consider widening the content area, 960 pixels is pretty standard nowadays, and this would give you more screen estate to play with.

2. Add a search box to every page, make it prominent, top right is a commonly usable place. Possibly even have two search filter fields, ie

Find me a [type select box] in [location select box]

3. Check your stats and see which areas/pages of the site are most popular then add feature links/content on your home page to these. I notice you have Featured lawsuits and Lawsuit alerts and thought these might be popular - in which case make more a of a feature of them.

Just a few things from me at the moment, as I am on my blackberry and opera browser sucks.

On the left buttons, use a more common test. I would recommend arial.

Don't use :: as a bullet, I haven't done that since I was 12 lol.

I would also try to create a more modernized banner and widen the content area, otherwise I think it fits the purpose well.

Coding is just like a woman. If you don't do something exactly right, it complains.

Header text is very weak and unprofessional while the stock image is overpowering and IMO should include an attorney. Buttons are unnecessarily long while the content seams to narrow and should be expanded. The background should consist of something more but not too busy, maybe even a light gradiant would help if nothing else.

There are terms everywhere! This needs to be organized, and the current vertical style makes the page very long and non user friendly which is also why the page would look better if expanded width.

Hope this helps, site is definitely not lacking content you just need to organize it better.

Edit: Also I just noticed you have a "Testimonial" thing that changes quotes. The fact that i didnt even notice it tells me its in the wrong place, and what would you think about changing that image at the top of the page every few seconds with a different testimonial contained in a transparent box? you could leave the "call now..etc and have it fade into the left of it. (although i dont like how it says "Call now" its not necessary and seems possibly desprate like some infomercial or something.)

RMC and Webtraffic thanks for the insight, I didn't build the site but some of the things you guys mentioned are spot on things that need to be changed. Please keep em coming as this is a long term project for my buddy who lost his designer....
