Website Review and Suggestions

I had the idea to built a micro site that was a social experiment. The rule I made for myself was that all of the code had to fit onto one page. I did break the rule slightly by importing some existing PHP classes from my library, but that's another story.

It only took me about 6 hours to put this together, so there's still plenty of room for improvement. It is already keeping statistics about which links people like and which they don't. If enough people dislike a link, it won't be chosen for users. Once there are enough links, I'll probably show the top ones right on the page.

The idea is, anyone can submit a link. It is then minified (like bit.ly or tinyurl.com). Then, instead of getting your own mini-link back, you get someone else's link instead. You visit the link, and then vote like or dislike. If you like it enough there is also a button to share it on Twitter.

Mostly because it gave me the same link to a website twice and it was this website.

Well, it's random, and chances are, that could happen. I've only entered about 50 links so far. I've done it many times, so trust me, it's random.

Oops, I found a bug. I'm going to have to drop the database and start over. It stopped allowing ratings after record 35, which was a 0 (zero) in the key making the URL. This evaluated to false when I used it for checking, which was the opposite of what was needed. 0 !== false; But enough boring details...

Ok, should be fixed. And I added a message at the bottom showing how many links are in the system.

I think this is a funny idea. You could fool people who aren't reading the webpage, and think it is a url minimizer, and if they shared the link they will be sent to a random page.

Just out of curiosity, if people type in their url, will someone eventually get sent to it, if not that would be a cool feature.

Yes, that is the idea. If you add your URL you are added to the list that is chosen. However, if people give your link a bad rating, you will eventually be removed, though your "tiny url" will still work.

I made a couple of changes:

1. You can click on "Rate a random link" and give links ratings without having to submit a link.
2. When you submit a link, it returns the link you submitted, minified , and allows you to share it on Twitter.

What to you think of these changes?
