Started a website for guitar players and song writers. I would like some feedback as I'm new to web design and have done this from scratch. I feel I'm getting carried away a bit and need some help to tidy it up a little before it gets too late.

Cheers its http://www.guitarandsong.com/

I have a forum and a blog at my site and the main site is basically a place to post up songs I have written and recorded myself, post guitar lessons, exercises, videos and lessons.

The site seems to be layed out well, but you need to fix the site width so it matches your header size. Also for your links next to the dial you should make the text clickable as well.

Hello,
I think the site is too Blah, It needs more color. The banner is center and the content is not. Make sure its all even. Like if the banner center make sure the content is too. Keep the Banner and the layout the same for every page, it will look more professional. Overall Its looks to be a Sample Basic Design. But you can improve.

then he needs to make it so it looks good in all browsers and even too. cause most users use Firefox and IE. And if it looks bad in one then you lose half of your viewers

I think it looks alright, but you need to fix the layout a little, center your content and maybe use one banner for all pages.

Also you should make a links page and put all the sites you link to in it, that way you have more room for your main content.

And you should add a little color to your site maybe the footer and header section then change the color of your forum to match your site color.

I find it very simple. Well, you should promote this is in exchanging links in any guitar tabs websites. Wherein guitarist always search for guitar tabs.

It's a good start, but it has a late 90's Microsoft Front Page feel to it. It needs some more structure and containment.

Thanks will put up. Always looking for ideas and asked in guitar forums. This is the first feedback I think I will use. Thanks and will let you know when I put up a list of chords.

Will be looking for some help from this forum though cos I wanted to put this kind of information up but as you know there are lots of chords and scales and need some sort of search tool for my site.

Thanks just the kind of feedback I'm looking for as a novice will take on board.

Honestly, I don't find anything appealing about it. I think that you need some sort of a structure, some color, a good interface, and clean code.

The site may be efficient for what it is, but if you want a beautiful design, you will have to look elsewhere.

I would recommend taking a good look at some very well designed websites, and come up with some clever ideas of your own. Make a sketch on a napkin or a sheet of paper, and then create a mock-up of it in photoshop (or GIMP if you don't have photoshop). Then from there you can code it, but I would recommend doing it by hand.

Here are some examples of quality work:

I would make the text of the links clickable, as well as the dials.
I do not like the menu in the excercises that follows you around. It is too "bouncy". You should make this static, or if it is to remain in the same position use a fixed position so it stays on screen as you scroll. It is too distracting as it moves (especially if I am to be learning scales on this page).

I like the site though, it is a nice idea and some good content.

There's really no design at all. It's all content with a few pictures. The layout is nice and the site is informative, but it needs to be more attractive.
