Website Review and Suggestions

Hello All,

We have launched a footer gallery website - http://www.footerama.com, where users can submit supercool footer designs.

Please review the site and give your honest suggestions.
We are trying to borrow a film noirish poster look, so movie posters buffs pay extra attention.

Please rate the site design as well and let me know if the color scheme works -
1. from user experience point of view
2. from the theme point of view

l like the design. Watch the font size at the bottom footer. Try to make the content pods equal height. And make sure everything lines up nicely. But all in all nice design.

Thanks for the comment. Actually the idea is NOT to keep all the content pods of equal height and using Jquery script to arrange them the way they are. Only the widths remain fixed while the height are given a free hand.
Do you think the footer font size is too small or too big?

I think the site looks good, but the individual pages are stretched and off-putting. The colour scheme is nice, but I wouldn't visit again, its a little too mono and dull for my liking.

ah ok, i see what you mean...the font in the footer looks like it's different sizes in IE, might need to be fixed up...love the idea tho and love the design, especially the logo.

Adam, thanks for the comments.
The resolution was selected to be 1280 for one prime reason - our target audience is web designers and developers community. And the prevailing screen resolution is above 1024 for this community, hence we utilized the horizontal width to the best.
The mono color scheme was a homage to the old movie posters where not much color variations were done - also it lets you focus on the content without making the background look too dull. But I guess it really isn't working if I have to explain it so much.

Toshiedo, I will definitely look into what you are saying. Probably it's time to release v1.1.

Your site does not look too good, with what your site is about i would go with white background, and your banner looks really old, i would try to make it look more modern, if you change those two things your site will look 10 times better.

I think it serves its purpose well and I disagree with Knight13 about your banner. I think it looks pretty cool and fits the theme well. The only suggestion I would make is shorten the width. If people are using a lower resolution they have to scroll side to side to see the entire page. I understand it's made for designers but usually I have more than one window open at a time and my firefox window isnt all the way across my screen. Good luck with it

I like the site. I've bookmarked it. There's a lot that's right about it, both concept wise and content wise. With that said,
"White Hat's Webworks Presents" makes me go cross-eyed trying to read it. Gray on this color red is almost impossible to read.
The stars lost their gradient.
I can dig the FOOTERAMA logo, I was around in the 70's, but your site is about showcasing the best footers the web has to offer, today. There's a little mental incongruency there.

I like the site. I have searched for sites like this before when doing some web design.

I didn't like the site. I don't see nothing there that can atract the visitors.
It looks old as some one said before. The is no content, it looks empty...

Joel, yes, the idea is to emulate not only 70's but bit of 40's as well. So I am working on adding an alternate stylesheet of pitch black to give it real noir look.
Manson, the titles are created using Cufon and sIFR - and they have their shortcomings!
Xela - I appreciate your comment. What exactly did you not like about the site? Is it the content? Or anything particular about the look of the site?
I have tried to add touches of modern web designing in typography and layout etc. But if I am having to explain it here, it is definitely not coming across that well. Do give me your feedback and I will make updates accordingly!

I don't know if the site is for all people or if it is a technical site.
Maybe it was good to have something explain about the site, because I can not figure it.
What should we comment the footer of the templates?, sorry but I didn't understand the subject.
I think you can do better.

@Xela - Got it!! I think then adding a tagline makes sense. The site is not specifically targeted to designers only but can be more interesting to them. Plus I always felt the domain name was very intuitive, but seems I was just overconfident about it.
Are you disappointed with what you see on the site, content-wise?

Maybe I was not the right person to review your site as it is more a technical site then for the general public.
In my opinion I will start to make it more new and attractive. I'm not telling you nothing new, as you can see other similar sites on the internet, as on this search:
