I've invested quite a lot of time in my website and its getting hits, some organic and some through adwords. I'm only targeting a small area with regards to the web world and traffic isn't my problem, the problem I'm getting is I get little return from the website:

As an example today someone went to my site looked at 17 pages and spent 5 mins there but no email and no phone call - I'm not saying everyone who goes on there should call or email but I feel my conversion is low.

What is putting people off?

I think it is a nice site. Don't be turned off that a person visits your site and doesn't contact you. Chances are, you had enough information on your site to help them decide if your services were for them or not. That's not a bad thing.

From a design standpoint, you might want to use higher res pictures for your Flash slideshow and keep the transitions between slides consistent. Having random transitions is distracting and forces my eye to look back up at the show while trying to read. It's just a natural thing that could be avoided by using consistent transitions.

On a side note, your work vans are cool.

Thanks, the flash images do need changing its just a struggle trying to find the right images but I'll get there eventually.

I'm always thinking the website is missing something but never know what it is!

There could be lots of reasons why people are visiting you site and not contacting you.

Outside the site itself you could be attracting people who aren't ever likely to buy in the first place. For example if you're getting search traffic from phrases where the person is looking for information as opposed to being ready to buy. That might have been what happened with the person who viewed all those pages. That person wasn't looking to buy now. Ideally the information they found on your site will be enough to convince them to come back when they are ready to buy.

Your site looks good. I don't see an obvious things that would drive people away. It's easy to navigate and find things. It looks professionally done. I see you've added calls to action in the form of contact us links where appropriate. You might try turning some of those links into larger buttons. Makes it a stronger call. You can still leave the link in the content too.

Your copy reads fine, but I think it could be improved with an idea toward leading visitors down the sales path. Up to you whether to learn more about copywriting and keep improving the copy or hiring someone to rewrite it. You could try a limited test where you hire someone to write one specific product page and then running an AdWords campaign directly to that page to see if it leads to more conversions. You'd know whether or not to keep the copywriter you hired.

Overall try not to look for one big thing that's missing. Think more of how you can make incremental improvements daily, weekly, monthly. If you keep improving things and doing it consistently you'll get the site to where you want it. Kind of the every long journey begins with a small step idea.

add more reinsurance like but a BBB icon or some logos who people trust and make a testimonial page from people who have used you before people need to feel like your safe to deal with

The cost of writing a page is going to depend on who you hire. You should be able to find someone decent for $50 - $100 an hour. Go to low with the price and you may not get any improvement over what you already have. Like I said above your pages read well as they are. It's not like their poorly written pages.

If you can invest $100 or $200 or more if you can and see if it helps. Worst case is you're out a couple hundred, which sucks, but it's also a reasonably inexpensive business expense.

I too have an ecomerce website that is just up and running. I've been approached by a few optimization companies who tell me that in order to make any money I need to invest at least $1600 to start. I don't have it. My webmaster is Storesonline and they tell me for $200 they will get me 750 links that would greatly improve my ranking. I'm wondering if I should just wait till I save the money for the bigger investment.Worried about waisting $200. Has anyone made any significant money online? How much did it take and how long?
