Hey people. Im new around here. Is this place any use? Im lookin for somewhere to keep up to date on the latest web trends etc. Also somewhere to show my work and get creative criticism on it? i go to a few other forums but want to broaden my horizons and see if there are any other usual forums out there. what is the standard of design like on this form? (a few design forums i go to have a piss poor standard!)

here is the latest site im working on just to get a grasp of the standard of design: latest

and here is my portfolio site. i only recently made some edits to the design but amnt mad about it. feel there is too much goin on makin it slow and jumpy! Portfolio

anyways, hello....

Your sites are smart, particularly the portfolio one, very contemporary without being over the top. I honestly don't know how you could improve on that... I liked your sketches/pictures too.

Wow, your Portfolio site is a real eye-catcher! I love the water wave graphic you have set as the background. Seems a little slow loading on my end, but worth the wait once it came up. Trouble is, half the time when a site is slow to load I'll just back out of it and keep surfing elsewhere. So you might want to work on that.

The other site looked professional, but really didn't have the same *zing* appearance that your portfolio site did.

thanks for the good comments guys. i heard that from someone before bout it being slow loading. to be honest i'd love to have the time to scrap the content of the site and redo it, i think its fairly untidy. plus the majority of flash stuff is very dated. i'd probably scrap that section as well as the sketches. i dont think they have a purpose as im a webdesigner. might actually do a sketches site! now there is something i actually might get my head into!!! haha sorry, wandering off there! sorry. but yeah, thanks again for the good words. i'll post up anything i do anyways. cheers

Loaded your site from the UK using Firefox 3.6.6 and it's a really nice design, the sites in your portfolio load quickly.

A comment you have "If you have not already noticed how important the internet can be for your business I think its time you opened your eyes." - As a customer i would take that as a little obnoxious, maybe consider not being so aggressive?

Again i know nothing of web design, i am simply a business owner !

alzer81, I really like the minimalistic and clean designs. Your portfolio is also very easy to navigate. I quickly got an idea of what to expect from you from a layout point of view, but I'm still not clear on whether you can make dynamic sites, and if you know PHP, Java, mysql, XHTML, CSS, etc. I'd include that info on the homepage. I wouldn't mention you use dreamweaver. Serious clients don't want their sites designed with dreamweaver because it adds extra useless code. I would also split your portfolio around the various site groups, like Static, Dynamic, Flash, etc. While hovering over a site in your portfolio you should give info on what programming languages were used.

I will redesign my site one day (hopefully sooner than later), so that makes me a potential client. When I was looking for my first design company (the ones that designed my current website), I looked for people with SQL, CSS and PHP skills, and someone who can make custom sites without the use of Joomla or WordPress, and my guys offered all that info without having to contact them. Also, can you redesign old websites? Some designers hate working with other people's code, but important to know.

cheers guys. i am gonna try get to changin the copy and content of the site. its kinda dated now. i have a few new things to put up and i'd like to rethink how each site is displayed. not happy with alot of it. i think the stucture and overall style of the site is there, just need to put the finishin touches on it

Both are very strong designs, with good layouts, and your portfolio site gives a really good idea of what to expect from you. Of the two, the portfolio site is the better. I would only think about changing a little of the content. I had no problems with loading time either, and my connection speed is by no means super fast.

There's little point putting Dreamweaver in your skill set as very few people use it any more, and ones who do are viewed as more amateurish - put something like XHTML & CSS instead.

Your sites look uber nice. I'm not a huge fan of all the "Lorem Ipsum" default content stuff, but I understand why it is used. The products page on the Dedsert site has the same blurb for Bingo as it does for Tipster, but I'm guessing that was just to expedite getting the site up?

Your portfolio site puts mine to shame and I'm a little reluctant now to ask for a review

Good work

Your portfolio site is pretty good. There are only a couple small things I would change. The 'arrows' you have to move right and left on the content panes should be grayed out or invisible when their respective end is reached and they have no function. Fir example there shouldn't be one pointing left when the page first loads.

The contact form is not rendering properly in firefox 3.5. The comments text box appears to the right of the name email inputs. You have to scroll horizontally to see the comments text box.
