Hi

My site is http://www.ittrainingsolutions.co.uk and I was wondering if you would mind taking a look and seeing if you can spot any obvious flaws, or if you have any advice.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Hey there.

First of all: DOCTYPE is XHTML 1.0 Transitional

Validator says: 105 Errors

Check here for more infos:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

As I can see it is done with DreamWeaver, so I do not wonder about messy code, bad javascript ...

The site gives me an error on line 16 when loading (according to Firebug):

Code:
invalid XML name
[Break on this error] Option Explicit
You should not use ID's twice in your code (e.g. the ID generalboxes is used more then once).

Google Page Speed Score is 89.

Here are the suggestions from Google:

Code:
Combine external CSS
Leverage browser caching
Specify a Vary: Accept-Encoding header
Serve static content from a cookieless domain
The header looks a little bit "old-fashioned" to me. Pink is not the color you should use IMO.

All those <br /> are not a good solution, you should use CSS instead.

Good luck.

It looks ok, If not a little "old" looking.

The site doesnt feel like it has any structure and seems a little messy?

Maybe sort the menus / navigation out a little?

Looks good though.

It has way to many colors and that makes it not look that good, also it looks a little old make it look more modern, other than that it is alright.

Thanks very much for your advice!

Michael - I'll try to fathom all of that out and get it sorted - thanks very much!

Lynxus - Thanks for your feedback too, I did think it was probably not the best designed site ever - have you got any pointed advice re. the design of it, eg. just wondering what you specifically had in mind re. the navigation?

Thanks for your advice so far both of you :-D

Not a fan of all the colors, but overall I like it.

Right I've sorted out the errors that you found Michael (On the home page anyway so far...) So thanks for that tip.

I've taken out some of the extra colors which I agree looks better.

I was just thinking about the top white strip above the navigation, because I think it potentially looks odd in just white, what do you guys think? Do you think it needs color?

:-)

IMHO, you should put the text in place of the boxes on top, otherwise it looks too graphic.

Three words for you:

"Rollover Image Preloader"

Or use sprites if that spins your wheels.

Agreed. Having to wait for the image to load when hovering is a little distracting.

did you use some website builder to use it? it seems like you did... i cannot say that this website has some "design" in it... what it has is "structure"

I would redesign/recode and use CSS'n'jQuery

Structure is there, yes... but the design is missing.

It all hangs a little loose
maybe make it a fixed width - i normally use 960px and float centre
also design it in Photoshop first and then break it apart and code it

it looks like you've designed it while codeing (maybe i'm wrong but thats how my early designs looked)

Yeah, zanet.

I'm using 960px and float center on most of my sites too!

About "break it apart" ... please do not "slice" it with Photoshop.

Learn to use CSS.

I can show you how easy it is. Look here:
