I hope you don't take offense pickyj...I'm the last guy to disparage anyone's good intentions or hard work, but if you're receptive, here is some VERY good advice.
#1. Get rid of the ads! I get that we all would like to earn a bit of money from our web ventures but the truth is you need good content and a fair bit of traffic before you even think about implementing ad revenue on your site. What's worse is that your ads aren't just blatant, they actually block your forum threads...not good. A forum is a tough thing to get going because no one wants to participate in an empty one. Work on your content. Get your friends involved. Create 10 or 20 fake accounts and post questions and answers from them to give your forum some traction. Once you have a few hundred QUALITY posts, you should start seeing some traffic trickle in. It's a lot if hard work, I know, but it is necessary.
#2. This is the third or fourth site I've checked out here on this forum that has some form of snow animation script running. All of you should stop that! After a few minutes on such a site, it gets pretty annoying.
#3. I think the premise for your forum is solid. You have a good selection of forum topics. However, I would recommend that you redraft your thread descriptions. You can actually try and emulate the style used right here on Tycoon Talk.
#4. Your logo and layout are good. The chat features looks good too.
Good luck!
