Pollyticks.com - Political Cartoons, Polls and Satire

Just seeking feedback. How does the top banner work visually? What am I missing? Is it clear what the site is about? Any glaring errors or design elements hurting SEO? Don't pull any punches. Please be brutally honest. Thank you, Blue

Run your site thru the validator, you've got a bunch of unclosed tags as well as other errors.

What she means by validator is the Validation button on the tools menu of the developer tool bar in Mozilla Firefox...
In other words..
The W3C Markup Validation Service
clicky there =)

BTW... I think red seems abit too communist for the banner.. lol, and thats just my cup of tea for the day.

Wow, it's really nice to see an intelligent satirical view on the world. Nicely laid out site that gets to the point.

Are you limiting yourself to US politics? Our UK government could do with a hammering too!

roastlechon ,doing that the validator indicates more than 200 "errors," but I've also checked the URLs for some very popular sites, some getting hundreds of thousands of visits/day, and the validator says that many of them also have dozens or hundreds of similar errors. How do I tell which are critical errors that need to be addressed and which aren't?

I have not exactly looked at your errors, but the validator does give you a description of your error, the line number (if you have php include files, you have to do some math to figure out which line number its in), and what can be done to correct it.

Thanks, menerweb! Glad you find it funny. How about the layout and design from a web designer's perspective? What do you dislike about it?

the design is very good
there is a lot of good content.
there are so many cartoons and each of them is around 60kb
that makes it to load very slowly on dial up
better to devide it into different pages

OK!

Links on top (Home | Contact | Cartoons | Store | Disclaimer) does not seem well. Font family and colors can be changed. I think, in fact, you can get the links from top to under mainbanner. I think you should position the table which contains your mainbanner and black image to top of the page.

Line-height of the texts are not enough I think. It can be 160% for example.

Bottom of the messages, there is an information part like this:

Time: 07:01AM Author: Blue Category: Political News Add comment

The "li"s do not have "left-padding". I think there must be left-padding for a better looking.

"H1"s can be made bigger. And maybe font-family can be changed.

It seems perfect on both Firefox and Opera too.

Great advice, menerweb. I definitely appreciate it. I'll work on all of your suggestions. Thank you. -BS1
