Hey Guys,
I am pretty sure some people know me here now pretty well. I have been giving honest reviews to many website designers and today I am asking the same from you guys. I made this website a while ago and finally I have time and money to launch this website. It is still hosted on a free server but I own the domain and will upload it after some good reviews and corrections. The bottom content will change but I need reviews on the stock images!!!

http://geocities.com/umairpowers/

thanks!!

Very nice and clean, like the stock images very nice. Maybe put it all in a div and but a small grey broder around it to make it stand out more.

Regards
Ryan

Ok..
First, you do not have a valid DOCTYPE. Exporting a site from MS Office is not a valid doctype.

The site doesn't come close to validating.

It's tables.. which is not good modern web design. It's also using a lot of non-semantic markup and deprecated HTML - stuff like <p align=center"> and a <font> tags doesn't cut it any more, it's deprecated. Modern web design, and professional, means dumping the tables and outdated coding and using HTML/XHTML and CSS.

Your font size is a bit too small and cannot be resized by anyone who might not have 20-20 vision and wishes to make the text bigger. Do you really want to limit your visitors in that way ??

I see no real text on your page. It appears to all be an image. Is this on purpose or only for testing ?? I hope you're not going to leave it that way. There is NOTHING there for a search engine to read .. and nothing for anyone using a text-only browser or assistive technology to read either.

The only stock images I see are the ones being rotated at the top. They're nice images, though

It's a nice clean design/layout. Great advice from LadynRed. If you're gonna be doing professional web design, you need to do it right.

Now for my advice.

Your second stock picture makes the text hard to read, consider a change to color, placement or some effects to make the text stand out more from each picture.

You only have a single page with no links. Nobody is going to make the effort to type in the url of your portfolio websites, and the fact they are pictures makes it so you can't even copy and paste the text. You don't have a lot of content to fill across multiple pages, but you should be able to have a few. Don't forget to maintain the theme/layout of your homepage.

Why do you have an email for myworksweb.com as your contact yet you're hosting the site on geocities? If you're going to put an email address, you might get more responses from an email address that exists, haha. WWW.myworksweb.com is still available, you might wanna buy that up pretty quick.

WOW!!!...I love all the response!!! It seems to me that I have a problem with the modern HTML. I just don't get it. I think I am more comfortable in designing websites in simple coding. Honestly I don't know CSS or XHTML but I do know that I have talent for web designing. LadynRed thanks for an endulging review. Besides is there anthing wrong with making websites in an old way? I still see websites (with good traffic) and their design looks like its been made by a thirteen year old who is using MS Paint for graphics and a free website editor for the whole website. Somehow an average internet user finds these simple things easy to use. Nothing Complicated!!! and Also you have gotta love those Tables....I still make great websites with table resizing and a little manipulation.

On the contrary however, maybe in mid november I may take some CSS and advanced website development classes so I am thinking to take the next move!
By the way I just bought myworksweb.com!

No, I don't, I despise tables. I've been building sites for over 10 years, and I will NEVER go back to the tedium of tables for websites. They are a nightmare to update and maintain and if you want to redesign your site, you've got lots and lots of work to do. I could change my entire website by changing 1/2 a dozen lines in my CSS code are barely touch the actual HTML in the pages.

You might want to read this article:

Just because 'lots of people do it' doesn't mean it's good practice any more.

I really like the design. The colour looks good. The off white background gos really well with the gray type. Really nice images. (How much did you buy them for?).

There are only a few issues that i have.
The html needs updating alot. I don't think DocType looks anywhere correct. you need to just open any other website and copy theirs. (as long as it's not strict).

The only other thing is - the slogon "I shut my eyes, in order to see" is a little cheesey me thinks.

Nice clean, simple. You are going to add more pages to the site, aren't you?

I personally like the monotone in the color scheme... Color is not always better.

I just have concerns when I stumble on a business using a ad. based hosting (like geocities)... Maybe step it up to an add free hosting plan somewhere.

ooooo LadyNRed is going to tear you apart!! lol! I see her "Standards Evangelist" points though. There are a lot of reasons to design web pages the "new" way. One biggie is accessability. I see your side of the argument too, MyWorksWeb. When I first was being exposed to CSS layouts after learning Table layouts, I was totally anti-CSS. I thought it was junk. I hated it, I thought is was useless and most of all UGLY. But I have to say, I am a total convert now. Once you start learning it, and start accepting it rather than pushing it away, you will start to love it. Just check out Css Zen Garden to whet your pallete. lol!

Anyway, putting that all aside, your site looks very nice. It is clean and fresh. Totally my style. The stock images are great. It would be nice to see some of your work displayed on the front page. Also, a little color towards the bottom would be nice too.

PS You can totally do this site with CSS. It would be easy too.
