They are both simple designs. Me personally, I like simple designs while others might like more complex designs. Simple designs look more professional to me. Good job.

The 2nd one is good, and it's nice to see proper valid code and a table-less layout. Both are rather unexciting, I don't personally care for the first one at all. The 2nd is definitely the better of the 2.

I think the design are way too simple. You need to make your site more exciting and make them stand out, especially for a site that offers professional web development. You need to showcase your skills and your website should speak of your skills.
