Website Review and Suggestions

I was curious as to whether some of you could take a poke at some of my content over at TwistedPortal.com. The site is for the PC games: Counter-Strike and all of its variations. I plan on adding Half-Life as well.

You'll see that it's obviously not finished but I just want to see if you think I'm going in the right direction as far as content goes.

You can make fun of my four year old ugly design too if you want. :x

I think you might want to re-embelish it a little. Styles have changed since four years ago.

As for the content... I thought this was a Website Design and Suggestion Forum, not a Web Content Architecture forum.

Sorry, you are correct.

Your design and structure (both layout and pagination) needs to be sorted soon. I didn't really know where I was going until I hit some content.

Your content is very well written and formatted. Good, grammatically accurate english is always a plus. No-one enjoys reading through text/leet speak. You also have a lot of information that is related to one thing in one area, which again is another plus on your behalf.

The only issue you have with your site is the design.

Other than that, good luck.

P.S. You can change the Post Title by going to Edit > Go Advanced

Yeah, the layout kinda is something I just have to deal with at the moment. (as I have no design experience) I'm hoping to have someone create something new for me in the coming weeks.

I changed the title of the topic but it didn't change, odd.

I like the site, I'm a big counter-strike fan as well, I've been playing for about 5 years now.

It might be good. But I couldn't find anything interesting on it. Try to provide motivational contents on home page rather than making it a doorway page for search engine. Remember! Search engine only provide you visitors, you should convert them into client.

Well the main page is just where my news is going to appear. I'm not quite sure what to put to get non-gamers to know what the site is. Any ideas?

As far as it being not interesting, I don't think I have much to offer to anyone who doesn't play the game.

"Welcome to {name} the number one site for {short description}" That usually works well, it's short and to the point.

I don't play or have any intentions on playing, but I found the content to be great and quite motivating. Any chance you have a degree or equivalent in Journalism?

Your home page should act as a 'feeder' have news, but also provide snippets (extracts) from each major section, so that you are leading the visitor into exploring your site.

No degree, currently in a Journalism II class though. It's certainly an interest of mine though I'm not so sure I'll ever take it up as a career. It'd be fun to develop further though, I must admit.
