Website Review and Suggestions

Hi all,
Me and my girlfriend just finished the design on http://www.all-linkdirectory.com
I'm sure it still has some small bugs, please review and write here if you find anything that is not in it's place!

To be honest with you, it's not a question of "bugs", but a question of "uniqueness."

There's nothing WRONG with your directory that I can see, but on the other hand, there's nothing RIGHT about it either.

The skin itself is unique, but so are the outfits a lot of the pop-tart singers wear these days. All the outfits do is serve to slightly cover up the lack of real substance and talent within, and your look is similar in that aspect.

In other words, it LOOKS good but there's nothing really unique about what you're doing. It's a directory site. It lists other sites. One guy runs it (or in this case, a guy and a girl). That's not unique...that's done almost to death.

don't want to offend you but it seems you have a problem with directory owners, though, if there weren't directories, how long would take you to build some quality backlinks? too much I guess...
anyway, there are many, really many directories out there today on the market but how many of them are using an unique design?

It's not him, it's everyone. A directory doesn't even really need a good look, because most of the time someone will submit a link and never go back.

Yes, it looks good. Lose the white text on the bottom because it's too hard to read.

If it weren't for directories, I'd have about 5 less backlinks than I do now.
I only have those because I know the people running them.

Yes, part of reviewing a webiste is looking just at the looks of it. But part of it is also the uniqness and functionality of the site. You have a directory. Nothing unique about that.

You missed the point completely.

It wouldn't take that much longer, because most directories don't provide that much of a quality backlink. They usually provide a backlink, but the traffic that results from it is next to nil and the search engine benefit is likely about the same.

A unique design doesn't solve this problem, either. It's a layout. It looks pretty. Big deal. All the other major problems with directory sites still exist: lack of originality, similar content, no reason to return as a visitor, etc. As McBone pointed out, it's a saturated marketplace because everyone thinks they can get in easily and make a quick buck. They're half right.

It is nothing more than a skin. So...I ask you directly...how are you going to make your directory unique and make visitors want to come back to it? (Keeping in mind that the skin isn't the answer.)

People said that it is not unique. I disagree. I think the big problem is the usage of colors and where you place everything. The pale pink in the left shouldn't be there. I think everything else it good.

It seems to be a nice site hope you have as much success with it as you have designing it.
