Website Review and Suggestions

Good morning.

This is my first real swing at web design. It's nothing spectacular, I know, but any input you have is appreciated.

If you are one who looks at the code, I'm sure it's a mess...

In short, this is the website for my short film/sketch comedy group. While I welcome comments regarding our content, I'm more interested in feedback on layout, colors, etc.

Eventually, I'm going to host the videos on there myself, but for now, they are just embedded YouTube videos. Just waiting for the original files from the guy who puts together our videos.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your comments.

Good work, I can't make any suggestions to improve the layout and think for a first web site , excellent.
As you say there are a number of coding errors, to start with you should include a DOCTYPE declaration as the first item in your code. There is lots of information on this and other coding issues available from http://www.webreference.com/ and various other resources on the web.
Any way, well done.

Alright.. I love the red

.. and I love the graphic, very cute. Billy's not bad either.. lol.

You're right.. the code is a mess, and could easily be much improved and de-table-ized.

The staggered photos on the "About Us" page seems disorganized, the staggering doesn't really work. Putting the pictures all on 1 row would be much more appealing and balanced.

You need to steer clear of the <embed> tag for your videos, it WILL cause IE users problems. Because MS lost it's EOLAS patent fight, any active content, which includes Flash, will force users to click 2 times to 'activate' the content, so they won't even see your movie, just a blank space, until they go thru that 2-click process. There is a sticky at the top of the HTML forum here which gives resources for replacing the <embed> with other methods.

I will look at the <embed> stuff, I didn't realize it was problematic.

Thank you for the comment about the graphic, it was the first thing I've really created graphically, and I'm pretty proud of it.

As far as the DOCTYPE declaration... I haven't a clue what version of HTML I'm using... I figured Dreamweaver took care of all that for me, guess I'm wrong. I couldn't get the search function on webreference.com to work for me, and the other sources I found were over my head. Boo...

You're right about the staggered pics, I'm not fond of them either, but haven't had a chance to play with them yet.

AND, I have a man crush on Billy. I'm not afraid to say it.

I think you must change the fonts. You can improve the way people think about your site with little changes. Decrease the image size is another thing you can change.

The DOCTYPE isn't so much an html 'version' thing. All you need to do is drop in a proper doctype declaration at the top of your document. HTML 4.01 Transitional is a safe one.33
