First off, I think you will need a much better design if you are going to appeal to those wishing to get into the web design world.
The site is just way to basic. I remember reading that people decide weather they like your site in less than 2 milliseconds. I know when I first looked at it my first reaction was to close the tab but then I remembered I was doing a review.
