i have come up with an idea to build a website that will help newbies in web designing/developing.. my target traffic are the newbies, therefore this site contains pretty much the basic things a newbie or as i call "web starters" should now before and as they build their own website.
i want to get comments about :
1. Design
2. Purpose
3. Contents
4. Potential
pls. review gently..
here's the link: web-starters.net

For starters (no pun intended), you have a great concept of which some people could really benefit from your site, especially if they've been on the Internet 3 years or less.
The one thing I disagree with you on is, having people register to see your Tutorials; that alone will drive visitors away, due to a couple of simple reasons:
1. There's so many free tutorials about those subjects on the 'Net now.
2. Many are not willing to register by providing personal information, such as their email addy.
You might want to either truthfully make sure your CSS validates, or remove the W3C CSS icon and link, as it doesn't validate at this time.
Beyond that, I suggest you correct the following code warnings:
Code:
line 256 column 22 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"
line 257 column 3 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"
line 295 column 1 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"
line 297 column 3 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"
line 303 column 1 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"
line 396 column 1 - Warning: <hr> attribute "size" has invalid value "1px"

First off I think the idea and design of your site are great.
But I noticed that your text was on the small side and couldn't be re-sized. To teach new comers it is necessary to set them on the right path to produce accessable web sites. One that exhibits this fundamental flaw doesn't fill me with confidence in your teaching.
As I didn't wish to register with your site I am afraid I can't review the remainder of your site.

I also agree that the website has a decent design and content to start.
Along with the errors which Travel Agent pointed out, you may want to optimize your pages more to better reflect different keywords you want to rank in.

I have to agree that requiring your visitors to register to view your content is not a good thing. You're really going to drive away most of your traffic without even getting to show them what you are offering.

i really appreciated your replies, thanks!
ok, i will change the permissions to let all visitor's see the tutorials without requiring them to register, thanks for the reply, it make things clear for me on that part.
on the validation part, i don't get it because i am constantly validating it at http://validator.w3.org and until now if i click on the validation banner on my website it says that it passed as an xhtml 1.0 transitional and also for the css it says that my site contains no errors. try to click on the two validation links and pls. tell me if i'm wrong i would rather be corrected to make sure.. thanks!

Checking deeper into your CSS verification, it states you still have 2 errors that don't validate as shown here

Check the creators of the forum site. There is usually a mod section and there are mods for nearly every forum to do this.

Relatively intuitive interface; I do like the amount of effort you have put into some of the tutorials, and as others have mentioned, this could be a valuable resource for newbies. Ich mag auch deine eigene homepage!

The site looks great, but i personally dislike the way you placed the google ads.
I get a sense of trick to the way it's placed. One less brownie point I would give to a site due to that reason.

Looks nice, but to be honest, their are so many sites out their on this matter, i'm not sure if registering is necessery. Perhaps, you can avoid that and place registeration for users who might want to user webmater tools section on your site or something.

In my mind you have great potential, but you need something to set yourself apart from the rest of the sites out there like these. There are tons of these sites. So why use yours? More content? Cool site? And your design looks pretty good.

Hello,
Like the others I kind of like the layout of the site - for sure you're not a web starter
I don't like the Google search field in the middle. If I want to search google, I use my web browser search bar. It is was configured to search your website, I'll understand but as you already have another search field on the top, this is one too much.
I would move the google ads down in the page too (maybe use an horizontal ad) and save the space to put more links to existing tutorials. Currently you have just 3 of them and the google links pointing to "competitor" websites...
regards,
-fred
