What is your site related to?
most of the links you saw were general directories, which you can use to submit your site to and to increase your site's popularity, but also while browsing those directories you can choose which once you want to see by selecting the categories in the left column.
To see the submission status column you have to select URL to track from the yellow bar and then click on the red, green or yellow little squares in the status column .
For example if you submit to directory, you click on yellow square and when that directory sends you approval email, you select green etc...
