Well, maybe.

A few things first. My site serves a very small group of people in a sort of RPG style game. Though perhaps not as intense as most RPG's. The content will stump most non-members, and it also has that effect on members as well.

So, I wanted everyone's opinions, constructive crticism and suggestions for

www.outpost49.tk

or, in case .TK decides to malfunction:

Direct link

Comment on the design, colours, anything.

Thankyou.

The first link worked fine for me. And I will not even attempt to comment on the content since I don't know anything about it.

I think the site looks good from the D.E.N.S.A. Outpost 49 title and down. I don't like the navigation above it and it's only because of the color scheme. Red on black is probably one of the hardest to read schemes of any. And it seems that it is very popular with the game sites that I've visited for other games. Then when one uses an outline font, it seems to be extremely hard to read. My biggest suggestion is to try something else, or a different color scheme with the top nav and logo.

You might want to consider using a bottom nav bar, too. It's helpful with longer pages.

Dave

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, I was getting uneasy with the top title and nav. That site has had a lot of re-designs and the top nav and title pic are one of the few remaining original components.

I am considering continuing with that green theme, perhaps with a bit of blue splattered in somewhere.

Ok, I will start at the top of the page and work my way down. The first thing I notice is your logo, and it is not very flashy, but seems to get the point across. I would probably work on this a bit to see if I could get it more professional looking.

Moving down, I see your navigation buttons which are incredibly hard to read. The font is wrong, and the red is wrong. It might be ok if it were a solid red, but that outline red is very difficult to see. Then you have Arcade in a rainbow. Try making that solid also, that will help there.

Next, I see your D.E.N.S.A. OUTPOST 49 graphic. I like this, I like the fuzzy look and feel of it. Try to incorporate that into your header though. Rather than having this by itself, incorporate it in your new header.

Next, I look at your left navigation. Switch the spot around. Rather than having affiliates on top, put your links there, and the affiliates below that.

I like the shoutbox, but it is kind of out of place on this site. You either need to dull it down, or spice up the rest of the site to match it.

Last thing I would do is shorten this homepage. It is incredibly long with nothing down the left or right hand sides past the very top. Try moving a bunch of those stories into the archives section. Also, try putting your email me link under links instead of clear at the bottom of the page. If I need to contact you I would much rather stay at the top of the page rather than having to scroll all the way down to find your contact us link.

This site has potential though. Good luck with it.

I agree. The links bellow your main logo (HOME, FORUMS,etc.) are extremely difficult to read. I am not very fond of the red. It seems like your top logo and links start with a red scheme and then you jump to a blue scheme. Deff. pick one or the other.

Thankyou everyone!

I've made some of the improvements suggested, and I think they look pretty good.
So thankyou again.

Only things I have not done are the main title image, I tried a blue themed one and it looked crap, so I'm sticking with the original until I can make a better new one.
Also, have not shortened the page yet, and i've had a few probs with the nav graphics. See my thread in HTML/DHTML etc forum if you're interested.

And the reason for the un-professional graphics is that I do not posess PhotoShop, Fireworks etc. All the nav graphics you see have been done on my other computer, on good ol' AppleWorks.

It would be better if it displayed in 800x600 without having to side scroll there seems to be a lot of sites that don't consider. That this is still the most popular screen size used.Other than that you seem to be on the right track.

Yeah, that is a problem. I built the whole thing in 1024 X 768, so i realised reso problems too late. But, the reason I'm bumping this is because I believe i've fixed reso problems with the altered design.

www.geocities.com/densa49

So far only the main page has been modified with the reso fixing design, but if you guys like it, I'll make the switch to the other pages.
