This is a simple site that I designed for a physiotherapy center. I designed it with the dial up modem user in mind who still use 800x600 pixel monitors.

Most of the graphics were obtained from free stock photo sites.

How can I spicer it up a bit without slowing it down for the dial-up users?

First remove all images from the site and start with a text only design, and styled with CSS. Then, if you have any images that will add value to the page add them in but try to keep the page size down to about 60k including html, css and images.

Oh how stupid of me to forget the URL, here it is:

http://emaphysiocenter.orgfree.com/

I'm having a bit of a problem with this free host:

The ad the host places at the top of the site pushes the site text down and in some cases it pushes the text outside the layer! To make things worse, they change the ad often and these ads veries in size.

To reduce loading times I used text rollovers for the buttons instead of gradiented and beveled buttons with their rollovers.

The main part of the download now is the photo at the bottom of the page (50K). That's a bad looking and undescriptive photograph. Remove it until you have a pleasant picture of the place. Instead put the phone number and address on the front page.

All the information from this site could be displayed on one page.

The Physiotherapy page will not display correctly at any resolution other than 800x600 because you've combined a centered menu/background with absolutely positioned layers of text.

It brings back memories of website design in 1995, which isn't a good thing. Plus you say that this is intended for dial up users, those two large images on the page combine for 68KB. That can take potentially many-many seconds for a dial up user to load. I would make a new logo. You can make one yourself that looks better and is around 5KB in size. Move to CSS if you can, don't use the baby blue background. Oh and the placement of text is out of wack for me on half your secondary pages.

Unfortunately bad use of CSS is the reason for wacky text placement (text DIVs use absolute positioning, while the menu appears in a centered table).

Thank you for your replys.

The info I was given was not much therefore the site is very small.

The logo was a scan from a leaflet which had been printed in the 90s. I had to enhance the logo colours in Photoshop.

I forgot to say that I designed this site in Dreamweaver 8.

As I said before, the text was inside the layers until the host put their ad at the top of the page which pushed everythong down.

Based on your responses, I have improved this website..

The physio center people told me to forget about the dial up considerations as most people in Egypt have a DSL connection or share it with a nieghbour.

The picture on the home page is a picture that they like and want on the website. The logo is their logo, not my design so I can't do much about it.

The new site is located at the same URL
