Website Review and Suggestions

Hello. I run a few sites for friends and myself, a couple small business ventures on the side of my ‘real’ job. I also design, maintain, and oversee many, many sites for my company, including a large ecommerce site. Enough about me… about my work….

On March 31st a friend was in a horrible accident. I volunteered my time/skill and hosting to mock up a site for the family: http://friendsofchad.com

I did all this in one day to help the Compton family raise money. I only threw it together in one afternoon, but I feel that the site serves its purpose. If you would take a look at this for me and give me some general feedback I would appreciate it. The family is stoked, but I always feel I could have improved. Let me know what you think!

well its hard to criticize a site which is such a good cause. but looking just at the design...
i really like it, nice to see html used where many would use images ie subheaders on pages, that works really well. in fact i cant really pick a fault with it at all. colors, images, etc all work really well together and makes for a very cool looking site.

my only criticism would be that the messageboard isnt inside the rest of the site, tho i suspect that was due to technical reasons than anything else.

but maybe you could have it load a little faster or maybe its your hosts fault b/c homepage loads super fast but when i go to another part of the site it slows down. i dont know but anyways very nice site

Well, I have no problems bagging on a site

. Here is what I found.

I think that your logo is a little too large. It blends well, but it does take up a lot of very valuable space on your home page.

As far as the rest of the pages loading slowly, it seemed fine to me. However, the message boards section on your site is very poor. It does not cut it for me. Some of the areas are very hard to read as they are nearly the same color. Be sure to change this and spruce it up a lot.

Last thing, I would not use your AOL address as a contact address. People can find out a lot of information about you based on that email address. I would set up an address through the site like: ContactUs@friendsofchad.com. Something like that.

You have a good set of graphics and a decent google ranking so you should be ok with this site.

I really like the design , the colors go really well, the photo are great and you kinda get to fell a little jelous of poor Chad since he seems so cool. (I guess your intention wasn't to gain sympathy, so that cool)

Great site love it, best of luck.

I agree with nixie its a lovely site & i will post a small message to chad myself and hope for his recovery. The pics & colours are great a good job well done even if you 'threw it together' one afternoon.

considering nixies previous harsh messages to other users you came off very well which is testimony to your thrown together work. well done

i give it a 10/10 for both colours & style & concept - just because i i like it !

The site is not bad, for my input

Gallery & Videos are 2 seperate items, but look like they are one item. You might consider breaking them up to Gallery, Videos or creating a section called multimedia.

You might want to put the navigation along the bottom as just simple text links.

I really like the site and wish I had some friend like you. I had to do mine all on my own, I had a motorbike accident (had an argument with a wall and lost Doh!!) and while laying in bed for what seemed like forever and was in fact only 4 weeks decided to nock up my personal site.

Didn't quite manage it a day yet I still seemed to pull of the just thrown together look better than you Ha Ha!

Anyway about the site, I don’t think the graphics on the front page take up to much room there isn't a great deal of text on the front page so the pics fill in the holes 10/10 for that. I did find the message board a little hard to understand not quite sure where is the best place to post a get well soon message.

Oh and by the way who has to clean all of those trophies?

The overall look of the site is great. Message board link did not work. Other than that good job.
