Website Review and Suggestions

this is a website my friend made, hes being a freelance web designer for years, and making good money from it.
he asked me to see what other web designers thought about one of his websites

Ummm... are you pulling our legs? The site looks very 1990's, too bright background, strange navigation bar, JavaScript, too small font, cheap-looking header image etc.

Sorry, man. But this website could look much better... I think you have to rework it. Start with colors.

Also check how website looks in different browsers (like Firefox).

The menu bar cover the 'ceramics" in firefox. the pictures are too small

White on yellow looks- I don't think "dated" is the right word because there was ever a time when that was attractive-It looks off. Just like the comments before, change the colors.

Also, as stated before the font and text are too small-

The images seem haphazardly placed-

The navigation- First the red border doesn't match whatever color scheme he was going for. Second, the java nav following the scroll is out dated. Also the home page link should be first, so its easier to find and keeping with unspoken standards.

The background- I'd say, if it isn't an image of something attractive, it should be left of a solid color. I never did like when there was text in a background

The header- Looks pixelated, not sharp and not distinctive.

Other notes- The gray footer is outside of the color scheme.

My recommendations- Come up with a color scheme first, then make everything within the page conform to that scheme. Place images in a way that makes sense and is appealing to the eye. Get rid of the current navigation and replace it with a css drop down menu. Enlarge the font.

yeah this site is defo more suited to the 1990's, the background is way to bright, there is no real structure to the site, the content is thrown all over the place, the header is very pixelated, i recommed totally starting from scratch my friend.

sorry to be so harsh, but im sure you would rather me tell you the truth, then lie and say its great.

great site, but i think one problem, the main menu, yellow text on blue background with a red border, makes my head spinning after reading it for a few second.

YELLOW wow thats bright. um yeh your text is to small for some reason the big pic in the middle gets a border around it when i hover over it don't know if thats on purpose. the menu bar covers up your logo in firefox and most importantly i have no idea what the page is about. you should write a little more text explaining what you do maybe some testimonials about how darn great you are. it will help make the site look better make it convert a little better and most important the search engines will have somthing to read.

My honest design opinion? Horrid!

-1 for bad quality banners (not the design per say)
-1 for pictures resizing when you move over them
-1 for urine coloured background
-1 for text resizing when you move over them
-1 for using the "standard blue"
-1 for navigation bar overlapping logo
-1 for random layout
-1 for small pictures
-5 for use of Comic Sans on a professional web page
+1 for the navigation menu though, kind of difficult to code, however:
-1 for the colors on the navigation menu.

Im not trying to be an *******, but you asked for my opinion as a designer.
