To start - two criticisms.
1) The texture in the background of the left hand side of the page looks a little dated.
2) This is the most important thing I think - the font you have used is not very legible in comparison to something with less of an italic effect. I think that if you use a better font for the main content, it will look a lot better.
Aside from those two points, very good job 
I have to say though, the script that you have downloaded is a little more complex than it needs to be I think, but hey, it works i suppose
