The color scheme looks quite ok to me. Though, you could think whether you need so many different colors, you could instead use only three colors (instead of four) and use different shades of them.
The background image of the site looks too much like a free template or something from a blog, I'd change that. I'd also think about making the layout to be at the center of the screen and not at left side.
I think the navigation on the site is a bit strange because you seem to have your main navigation links at the very bottom, why? Also, the footer of the page doesn't look correct with Firefox browser, you might want to fix that.
And the best way to drive more people to your site is to create a service that your target audience wants to use. This is especially true for this kind of site, I mean there really aren't millions of teachers around. Therefore you should instead of quantity (the number of visitors) focus more on the quality (the quality of your site and service, and the number of active members of your site).
