So I've been working in PHP for close to 4 years now and decided it's time to start my own company. I'm far from gifted visually but decided I should do the design. Even though I'm not going to be doing any graphics (codemonkey) it would give me a sense of I did it on my own and not have to say that some designer did it if someone asks. Keep it all in the company.
Here's the link - http://www.mmmsoftware.org/mmmsoftware.png

Some things I already suspect are wrong is that the header is too dark. I'm on an extremely bright LCD screen and need to see it on a normal, bulky screen to do some tweaks. Also with the header some of the brushes are, well, I'm not sure how to say it but maybe they have some opacity issues. But besides that I'm not seeing any problems? Are you guys?

Thanks for the help.

How much do you value your time? A professional web designer could design your layout and make the graphics for some $100-$200. It would take him/her about few days, how much does it cost you to spend your time on desiging your own website? And how much do you charge per hour? You can do the math.

But, about your design... Well, the layout is ok, though the main text area is way too wide. The wider the text area is the more difficult it is to read because eyes have to move so much.

The site would need, in my opinion, a solid color scheme. Now it's pretty black and gray. The left picture with the red chairs is quite good but the right one doesn't look good to me. You would also need a real header image, just having the name of your site or company with big white font is rather cheap thing to do, again, just my opinion.

Your copy seems quite usual for this kind of business, i.e. long, dull and difficult to read. You should use shorter sentences, move your focus from the features to the benefits, create a real heading ("Home" isn't really a heading), use sub-headings and bullet point lists.

This draft also lacks the footer but I assume you are still working on that.

The footer was just one of the things I'd do if I decided it was good enough. You're right though I should swallow my pride and get a designer since graphics just isn't my thing.

I don't think it has anything to do with pride, it's just a smart thing to focus on what you can do the best and let other people do the things they are good at.

And I know what I speak of, I too once wanted to make everything myself

Could I get a few more reviews so I can see what in general what people thing instead of just one person before I decide to go spend 200 dollars on a template?

Not bad. Has a nice professional business feel to it.

I would recommend some editing of your text though. For example, instead of saying, "We're famous for our software being always efficient and reliable...," it should be something like, "Our customers have come to count on our efficiency and reliability, allowing them to maintain even lower server costs."

hth.

Just saying I'd be happy to proof read it for you when you are done. Or not.
