Good start~! I think the first thing that beggining web designers forget, or never learn is that the color scheme is incredibly important to the visual appeal. The dark gray is, well, not the best choice and you have bright blue and some red links which all differ from the background style. The buttons are again different from everything else and then you decide to throw in some pink for update headers. From a design aspect, get a three color scheme and incorporate that into all the elements, instead of throwing in every color of the anti-rainbow.
Also I could suggest that you use the same layout for every page, or at least provide some sort of navigation on other pages besides "back to home"
All of your articles lead the visitor out of your page. get some original content.
"Daily Dump"- I don't know if this is supposed to be humorous, but its laughable in a bad way.
