Ok here goes. There are two areas I want to comment on & I am almost stuck which to go with first so lets deal with the site itself.
1) Site review.
Did you know that psychology of colours on websites is really important. The subliminal message you send out can affect the feel good or not that you get from your audience. Bcackerman is right black has dark mood feelings. Black & orange are danger colours thus your website header provokes a feeling of danger. Change to Blue or green or if you want to really provoke a truly patriotic feel good factor go for red white & blue!
I could not get the movie to run properly. Not sure why as no one else has mentioned it but there you go. Other than that the site is simple and fairly clean & if you put it to good use then its not actually a bad site design. Displays well in all browsers I checked.
You have however fixed your font size - all part from in the header. Stopping any of your audience from changing the size of text viewed. Its a good idea these days to use % for text size rather than fixed pxls so that people with eye sight issues can change the font size as required.
2) comment on site concept.
Well I have to applaud the fact that you are at least trying to come up with ways of changing your fortune which I guess is one step better than simply whinging and doing nothing. That said I certainly would not give you money.
There are plenty of people in the world down on their luck and some in much more unfortunate predicaments than you. There are people in this happy planet of ours dying from starvation and malnutition. There are people dying in wars not of their own making for causes they may or may not believe in but most probably for someone elses gain. There are men, women and children being abused both physically and mentally on an hourly and daily basis.
There are thousands upon thousands of other beings animals included who could do with our charity to help them out. In a perfect world charity would be the issue of politicians & world leaders but mostly they are too busy playing politics so it is left to ordinary people to do what we can when we can.
There are just as many people who have all had turns of bad luck or periods when life has been tough we did not all stand on street corners begging for handouts. The best of us got on with life and strove to change our fortunes with hard work, resolve and a smile on our faces.
If you are seriously fed up with life and have time and skills at hand than try doing some volunteer work. get involved in your local community or church. Getting involved might just give you a boost and also make you realise how fortunate you actually are.
There have to be charity groups that would love a website designed for them and you never know what opportunities open up for you when you choose to get involved in the world rather than simply stand and moan.
DOWNLINER - Are you ashamed that you made such a stupidly crass comment about the homeless? Never heard of the line 'there but for the grace of God go I?'. I don't expect you to feel charitable over night or want to hand money to every drop out you meet because i am sure some of them are there through their own miss deads, stupid errors, bad judgment or whatever but there are just as many who end up in the depths of the world through no ill will of their own but unhappy luck. I am sure if you stopped and asked them they would tell you they did not as children dream of the life they now have and would happily choose otherwise now.
None of us should be so insensitive or stupid that we pass judgement on others when we have no fact to base judgement on.
Neither should any of us be stupid enough to hand money to a complete strange just because they beg it.
Jerm3462 - try putting your skills and energy to better use. You clearly have skill so start using it!
