i am not a fan of having pop ups for the new pages maybe an inline frame could be more effective. color for the menus (orange) does not seem to go with the rest of the site. maybe think about centering it on the screen as 1024x740 the page is right aligned and looks dodgy. other than that it is a type of page that is done by major companies and if done by amature needs to be done really well. overall 5/10 good effort

Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. Seems slow to load - perhaps too much on the main page. Needs some intro text to describe what the site has to offer. Slightly too wide for 800x600. Might be nice if the links changed colour when the mouse is passed over them. Otherwise, a good solid design. Good luck with it.

ERm... WEll... The graphic of the earth has a black background, and the fact that the stars are missing there is noticeable... also... the top graphic is a bit wider than the one below it. The top graphics and nav bar are quick to load, but everything else takes a LONG time, which will probably cause people to leave without noticing that the site's not done loading... A way to fix this is to get rid of the date/time in the lower bar, so that people can see that it's still downloading...
Lots of alignment issues... things on the left moving too far over to the right... Other than that, not bad. 6/10

I'd noticed the same as Ikari above re: the earth graphic and the width of the top bar.

Plenty of good content, but I feel it may be a little too much on the one page, maybe have a selected few feeds on the front with links to the others?

ON my 576Kb DSL it still took well over 20 seconds to load the page, so I think it would be painfully slow for a dialup user.

Overall layout of the text seems ok to me. Everything in it's right place and easily readable.

Marc

I think the header is too big. Over-emphasing the header over the real content undermines the rest of your site.

I have 10Mbit line. The page was downloading 25 sec.

I'm using the Opera browser and your top menu looks weird in it.

Realy bad html code! 531 errors in w3c validator!!!

You need to split the page to many pages and clean up your code. It will make your pages faster and more usable.

With a cable modem, the site took considerable time to load. The banner appeared immediately, but the rest of the content was quite slow in coming -- between 7 and 10 seconds. That simply is too long by today's standards.

It looks like your content is syndicated from all over the net and the danger there is that all those HTTP requests must be sent out and returned -- an incredible task when you think about it.

Because the content is coming from all over the net, it is predictable that the content sections do not have a consistent look-and-feel to them and look totally unrelated.

Your page banner is completely too large and the stark black banner is too much of a contrast to the plain white page behind it.

I used your menu and found that if you click on the header element itself and not a submenu item (such as "Space & Science"), a new window is launched to the url javascript:;, an error. You may want to disable that item from being clicked on as a link.

I'm not a fan of scrolling text and it is difficult to review much about the site besides the banner and the nav bar because everything else is a product of external sites...

5/10

Content is great!

But you need to work on the layout...none of the right side borders line up. Have you ever used the Mozilla Dom Inspector? Download Mozilla browser and do a complete install. Open the browser go to Tools/Web Development/Dom Inspector. This may help you debug why the tables are not lined up properly.

And finally your color scheme needs work!!! I think you've just about used every color in the rainbow and several different tones of color. Maybe take a look at foxnews.com. I think they have a similar scheme to what you're trying to accomplish and maybe you can pick up some color tips from their color scheme.
