Hi,
We have redesigned our site with a new logo from the contest at webmaster-talk. thanks all.
I've tried to reduce clutter and create a fresh simple look. Any suggestions or comments, positive or negative, appreciated.
http://www.modernabode.com

I'm interested in the home page appeal and content

Hi there,

Looks really good, though the one suggestion I might make would be to raise the logo towards the top of the page and ad some graphics like sample merchandise etc on the front (home) page so that it's not quite so blank, don't clutter it immensely, just a little color with a display or 2 perhaps

Viewed it on Safari and it looks good. I suggest adding a little bit of padding to the text in the sidebar.

What good is saying that when you don't say what aspects you don't like about the design...if your going to review, review it properly.

Right, on to the site.
I think your going in the right directly but just a few things which makes it look out of place here and there.

I would personally say that the left column should be left clear of content on all the pages (like what it on http://www.modernabode.com/Glossary-R.html) .

Also, on all your product pages, the images should all be the same size and equally alined. This way the content looks clearer and easier to look at.

Keep an eye on your navigation too, as on the very last link in the list, "wanted items" - you have the img src code next to it as text.

I think you have made a great start, the logo with the background especially.

I'm using FFx on Windows and the Choose a Category dropdown is partially obscured by a scrollbar. Is it in an iframe? If so, why?

OK, I've been playing about with your site.
The problem is caused by the last option having HTML in it.
HTML Code:
<option value="http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_wanted.html">
Wanted List
<script src="http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/smb/js/hosting/cp/js_source/geov2_001.js" language="JavaScript">
</script>
<script language="javascript"></script>
<img src="http://visit.webhosting.yahoo.com/visit.gif?us1186572553" alt="setstats" border="0" width="1" height="1">
</option>
You see, you've got all that mess inside the option tag, when it should probably be someplace else.
Contrast this with another option tag (the first in the list):
HTML Code:
<option value="http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_locater.html">Special Request Form</option>
See the difference? Probably worth taking a look at. A lot of people use firefox these days, and this problem makes your site completely closed to them.

Almost there, but you've gotten rid of too much now!
Each option needs its opening tag, the writing and the closing tag.
You've missed off the closing tags for each option, and for the whole dropdown. This means that all the html underneath the dropdown is being included into the last option.
It currently looks like this:
HTML Code:
<form name="form">
<select name="site" size=1 onChange="javascript:formHandler()">
<option value="">CHOOSE A CATEGORY...
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_art.html>Art
.... Lots of options here...
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_locater.html>Special Request Form
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_wanted.html>Wanted List
When it should look like this:
HTML Code:
<form name="form">
<select name="site" size=1 onChange="javascript:formHandler()">
<option value="">CHOOSE A CATEGORY...</option>
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_art.html>Art</option>
.... Lots of options here...
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_locater.html>Special Request Form</option>
<option value=http://www.modernabode.com/modern_abode_wanted.html>Wanted List</option>
</select>
See what I've done? Just added '</option>' tags and a '</select>' tag.
I hope this is useful.
Tom

not bad,

I would rather put the blue bar that is on the left on the right.
Your logo is not bad, but to big. Let your visitors see more of your products or services then your logo.

Here are your meta tags:

<meta name="description" content="Distinctive modern design from the Art Deco period, mid-century modern to Pop Space Age 70's. Its all here. At Modern you will love our selection of mid-century furnishings &amp; accessories that are essential to complete your mid 20th century modern decor.">
<meta name="keywords" content="DISTINCTIVE MID-CENTURY MODERN DESIGN , MID CENTURY, MID 20TH CENTURY, MID 20TH CENTURY MODERN, MID-CENTURY MODERN, MID-CENTURY, MODERN DESIGN, MODERN ABODE, RETRO, MODERN, ART DECO">

Problem is you have all your keywords in caps
Decription tag is too long
