Hi,

I have worked up the nerve to have you all "let me have it" with your critiques. The column in the upper right hand corner is in tiles and I am still trying to fix this, so other than that........

Just a few nit-picky comments:

the background on the homepage and throughout the site makes it tough to read any text that appears on top of it, try just using a solid color, or just white.

icons such as the email icon in the upper right corner are very '90s, unless you are using custom icons that really compliment your design, I would stay away from them.

the menu links on some pages are bold, for example on the homepage, but on subpages the font is not bold

the galleries link in the body of the homepage doesn't work

you should definatly put some sort of caption with each of the images in the galleries so people have a better idea of what they are looking at

the home art & tips section have a completly different feel to it than some of the other pages, your design should be consistent throughout the entire site.

i like the idea of not seeing the same articles twice, but is there a listing of all the articles so that someone could easily find a specific article rather than hoping it showed up the next time they visit?

Overall its a nice start, but its the little tweaks that will really make a site look professional.

Hi,

The top banner and your logo should have a more contrasting color. The site seems to carry a light brown monochrome scheme but you get full color pictures here and there. Light brown will look good with siliver accents.

Just an idea.

Migth be nice to calm down you use of fonts, and I agree that the complicated background can be a little confusing. Nixies

Probably u didn'y put a lot of efforts in your site. We called it five minut web site. If u want to mmake your web site nice clear and friendly, u have to developed real design with nice menu and content, everething should be nice and smooth, not just a couple squares on web page.

Thank u
Good luck.

I think you should have an overall template for all of your pages. On somepages the top menu isn't in the same font as others and sometimes doesn't even have the same navigational items. Some of the applets may not load for users, due to the fact that not everyone has java enabled on the webbrowsers.
After that it's a nice site it's content is pretty good, so nice work.

My biggest problem - besides the overly generic look - is the width problem on 800x600. When in this resolution, because you are using %'s, things are not lining up properly. Minimize your resolution and you will see what I mean.

IMO, Your site is boring. I think you must choose other color combination to make it more catchy. After all your website is about painting and furnishing. it should be colorful and lively.

Just my opinion

The page took a couple of seconds to load, which is unusual for me on the broadband connection. How long does it take for dial-up users?
I thought the site lacked something, as it didn't interest me. The colouring effect was good, but out-of-place with all the standard text.
The menu bar sticks out over the top and text background, which makes it look wrong.
I thought the gap at the top could be reduced, and also the top border, as there's no need for it to be soo big.

You have a few things to look at & sort out. But stick at it & the good thing about feedback from these forums is they can give you ideas & tips.

First read back your reviews so far & you will find an overall feeling that you maybe need to rethink your design. Design a template that all your content will go into & although some people will tell you to forget potential viewers on old style small res I would still design to fit an 800x600 res screen as thats not a bad size for content anyway.

get pen & paper & pencils out. Draw your ideas on paper & then transfer to the computer. Once you have a paper design its easier to draw the table or frames in that you will need (with imaginary lines) to hold your content.

Also go & download a colour wheel. Do a standard search & try some demo's or freeware although I use color wheel pro. http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/

This will help with colour scheme which is very important to your potential viewers & customers. Eg purple & orange & pink clash quite badly on screen especially when they arent colours but backgrounds with effects in them. If you are using something like that fade it out. Think about a magazine cover. Would you buy that book ??? Does it make you want to read it & what does it say about the artist? Also be consistent with background colour & make it part of your overall colour style or theme. Look at other sites & see colours & layouts that work. http://www.thecreativemonkey.com/ (nice greens very fresh) http://www.locksoflove.org/ (blues with nice layout centred on page) http://www.squidfingers.com/ (design website with interesting colour scheme). When you build your colour scheme you should also be considering links & text colours. Yours fade out & dissapear at times as they clash with the backgrounds.

Stick at it though. Good content so worth getting the site right some nice pictures & one plus was your photos were very quick to download. Good luck
