Description:
DeadliestCatch.net is an informative content site for the Discovery Channel TV series, Deadliest Catch. The site has been up for just a month but has already been generating consistant revenue. I've put very little work into this site. I've done absolutely no link building, advertising, or marketing of any sort outside of SEO. With a little eff, I'm positive one could really boost the revenue this site is making. Or with no work, one could continue to make good money off a site that requires little to no updating.
The only time I've ever updated this site was to add the season 2 dvd to the online store. That's it.
I'm selling the site because my network is getting too large to keep the smaller sites. There are no problems with this site as of now: ie. no trademark problems, no adsense problems, no CJ problems.
Revenue Details:
Proof of revenue provided at: SitePoint
Commission Junction
Most of the site's revenue comes from Commission Junction through the sale of Deadliest Catch DVDs. I was initially surprised at this since lets face it, the site isn't as professional looking as the actual Discovery Channel store. But nonetheless DVD sales have been very steady selling 2-3 per week (with no less than $4 commission per sale).
Also, I've only used CJ to sell DVDs. I'm not sure, but I would guess that with some work you could find some other DC merchandise to sell through affiliate programs.
25 Jun - 25 Jul CJ - $42.36
Google AdSense
The other portion of the site's revenue is from Adsense. The ad placement seems to be pretty good as the CTR is very high. The only problem is the amount of impressions for the site is low. With more traffic, I'm certain Adsense could generate a lot more revenue.
25 Jun - 25 Jul GAS - $19.38
Traffic Details:
Traffic comes (I assume) 100% from Search Engines. I have done absolutely no advertising for this site aside from a single link on one of my other sites (TalkThemes.com) which was put there to get the page indexed. After it was indexed, traffic and revenue came almost immediately. I can't tell for sure, however, since the site is hosted off of an extremely cheap hosting plan from peoplehost.com and I don't get traffic stats.
The site is very well Search Engine Optimized as shown in these top Deadliest Catch searches:
Deadliest Catch, Deadliest Catch Season 2 DVD, Deadliest Catch Soundtrack, Deadliest Catch Theme Song, Deadliest Catch Crew
Those keywords were chosen using overture, so they are the highest-searched Deadliest Catch keywords.
